There have been hard to believe rumours about the X-Men joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a very long time now, with the most popular suggestion being that the mutant heroes could show up in one of the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movies. Adding further fuel to the fire is the belief that the Legion TV series is set in the MCU, but in a new interview, Joe Russo seemingly killed these theories.
"As far as we know, right now there isn't talk regarding the X-Men," Captain America: Civil War and Infinity War co-director Joe Russo confirmed. "I don't know if behind-the-scenes there were conversations or if there are conversations happening but we certainly haven't heard of any." If anyone would know, it's them, and with the Guardians of the Galaxy confirmed to appear, the movie will be busy enough! However, could a deal of some sort for the X-Men not be reached?
Despite the response to X-Men: Apocalypse, it's easy to believe Fox have little interest in that right now. Joe meanwhile would go on to explain just how complicated these things are. "Sony and Marvel had a relationship through Kevin [Feige] and Amy [Pascal] and through us and Amy. That's really how Spider-Man came about. It requires a certain alchemy and a very special situation for studios to share properties. There was not talk on Civil War about the X-Men." What do you think?
