Avengers: Infinity War is going to feature updated looks for a lot of our favourite heroes, including Iron Man. We've known for a while that Tony Stark will be rocking a brand new suit of armour in the highly anticipated movie and now Hot Toys has unveiled an action figure giving us a detailed look both at its many capabilities and the various changes which have been made to the hero's appearance here.

The figure features an interchangeable helmeted head with metallic red, gold and silver colored armor painting and a newly painted head sculpt with striking likeness, LED light-up functions scattered throughout the armor, a variety of Iron Man’s latest weapons including interchangeable LED light-up Nano Repulsor Cannon, Hand Cannon on left arm, a pair of attachable Nano Boosters on the back, and a specially designed figure stand with the movie's logo. So, that confirms nanotechnology then!

Iron Man has always had some very cool weapons but he's upped his firepower in a serious way here. As you can see, it appears as if this suit will be able to actually generate weapons out of thin air!

Assuming the suit can create new weapons via nanotechnology or something similar, that's a big step forward for Tony Stark and ensures he'll have enough firepower to do battle with Thanos.

Here's a crazy theory for you; what if Tony Stark loses his arm in Avengers: Infinity War? While this massive weapon could form around his hand, it could also be a replacement for a missing limb!

There's a classic Iron Man pose for you! It's safe to assume that we'll see a fair few of these when the movie is released, albeit in some unexpected locations away from the likes of New York City!

You might think that arm theory is a little far-fetched but bear in mind that it's become a trope in Phase 3 for a character to lose an arm and it would certainly up the stakes for that to be Tony Stark.

The question is, how will Iron Man lose a limb? Well, it's probably going to be when he does battle with Thanos, something we've seen in the trailers when the hero squares off with the powerful alien.

Thanos tearing Iron Man's arm off would make for a memorable visual and instantly establishes the Mad Titan as a very real threat who is going to have a lasting impact on Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Going back to that cannon for a second, it looks extremely powerful and it clearly charged with the same energy from Iron Man's repulsor blasts. The question is, just how much damage will it do?

Chances are, it's something Iron Man believes will be able to deliver a killing blow to Thanos but he'll no doubt quickly learn that's not the case. Then again, perhaps it's cosmically powered somehow!

The other weapon on Tony's new armour doesn't look quite so powerful but will no doubt come in handy when he's doing battle with whatever aliens are loyal to Thanos aside from the Outriders.

Well, if you were worrying that Iron Man would only be decked out with futuristic new tech, don't fret, because his classic repulsors can quite clearly still be seen here and will be used at some point.

Minus all the fancy new additions, Iron Man's armour looks very similar to what it has in the past, albeit a little more futuristic. Still, this is a big step forward from his Spider-Man: Homecoming suit.

Will there be a story explanation for Iron Man's new suit? The most likely one for that is Tony Stark knowing that a threat is coming from outer space and having to up his game in a major way.

Where has Iron Man got the technology to create this upgraded armour? Well, it's possible that he's using Chitauri tech or even some of the stuff Ultron came up with but we'll have to wait and see.

It's interesting that this armour sports battle damage and no matter how technologically advanced it is, it's clearly still just a suit which can be damaged and destroyed when he heads into action.

What's the deal with those wings on Iron Man's back? In the past, Tony has used the repulsors in his feet to take flight but perhaps those will allow him to fly in outer space and in extreme conditions.

Image may contain: text

Sure, there's no sign of the wings here but I still can't help but wonder what importance they're going to have. If Iron Man is going to fly through space, that's going to make for one incredible visual.

Here, we see Iron Man taking aim with both weapons and he looks pretty damn cool. Of course, there's nothing to say that this will happen in the movie but there's a good chance it probably will.

The prevailing theory is that this new suit will be contained within Tony's arc reactor and while there's no evidence here to support that, chances are it's accurate as it definitely looks pretty powerful.

Here, Iron Man can be seen squaring off with Thanos. His Hot Toys action figure hasn't been revealed yet but it will no doubt be online soon and will hopefully shed more light on his appearance.

That's a great likeness to Robert Downey Jr.! The detail here is extraordinary and regardless of whether or not you're interested in laying down money for this figure, you have to admire the design!

@PantherKing - supposedly the guy who teased it tends to do big hype things for small announcements and is also involved with the video game side of marvel so it could be related to that

@PantherKing - it is pretty rad hardware. glad stark keeps upgrading with the storylines.
wouldn't it be typical of stark if he figured out how to incorporate an infinity gem into his hardware with AI control of it instead of the haphazard control that others wield them with?

I'm gonna be a little disappointed if Iron Man doesn't shout "PROTON CANNON!" when he uses that fancy new blaster.

What 'Avengers' Surprise Says About Marvel-Hollywood Reporter 3/2/2018

The 'Infinity War' release date shift not only helps spare audiences from potential spoilers, it also signals Disney is seeking to further capitalize on the 'Black Panther' phenomenon.

Further cementing the idea that the summer movie season is no longer confined to the actual season of summer, Marvel surprised a lot of people Thursday by announcing that Avengers: Infinity War would be opening a week earlier than expected in North America, on April 27 instead of May 4.

There are, no doubt, a handful of possible reasons that drove this shift; Marvel is still riding the wave of deservedly good publicity for the wildly successful Black Panther, for one. This shift suggests, even more than before, that Marvel is the top dog in the industry and everyone else is running to catch up.

We Bleeding Edge now boys! Also for the people who keep saying it looks like a rip off of Blue Beetle, Tony had armour that looked like this during Heroes Reborn in 1996. Thats 10 years before Jaime Reyes was even created.

@AstonishingArachnid - I think it is a mixture of his bleeding edge armor in design but model prime armor in actual abilities.
