Joe Russo Promises “Psychological Realism” And “Greatest Threat” In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

It seems Captain America: Civil War co-director Joe Russo also touched on the highly-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War during his extensive chat with the folks at Comic Book. We’ve heard the sibling filmmakers express how the two-part event will have the highest stakes of any Marvel film, but now Joe Russo has discussed the essential concept of the movies and how they’ll execute it.
However, he first touched on the longtime rumor, or speculation, that Avengers: Infinity War will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes team-up or cross paths with James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

“That is another one that we would have to reserve as a surprise,” said Russo of the team-up. “But we will say this: People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie. The concept of Avengers: Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept.”

Joe Russo was then asked if he and his brother, Anthony Russo, have thought about the cosmic nature of Avengers: Infinity War, and how it will differentiate from the Captain America movies. “Yeah, we certainly have,” he replied. “I sat in the theater and watched Empire Strikes Back seven times in a row when I was a kid. Yeah, we're science fiction fans as well, Dungeons and Dragons. We collected all the books when we were kids. We had figurines. Anything that you could think of that has to do with fantasy or sci-fi or superheroes was in our universe. We're just going to approach the cosmic side with the same fervor that we did the earthbound work we've been doing. We also are going to work really hard to bring a psychological realism. We obviously can't bring a naturalism to it because it doesn't really exist outside of science fiction, but we can bring that psychological realism to it, to the characters, and that's going to be our focus.” He continued, “Also, it's going to be our focus to explore the cosmic side, applying the same rules that we like to apply to the last two films that we've done. It ends up being the rules of physics always apply or apply as much as we can get them to apply based on what we're doing.” What do you think?

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War will be directed by Joe & Anthony Russo, and is set to commence principal photography in October 2016 with Part I opening May 4, 2018, and Part II May 3, 2019.

I already expect at least one of the GOTG to be in it(Drax more than likely) but I really hope they have one of the Defenders in it!

I hope it's the Avengers mixed in with the GOTG.

And that the reason as to why Cage, Jones, Daredevil, Punisher and Iron Fist unite together is to "defend" earth, while the big leaguer's are busy "avenging" it.

Having The Defenders take place during Infinity War sounds the most possible.

For some reason, I'm most excited to see Dr. Strange in this, more than any other hero.

I hope Marvel understands that they need to cover Thanos' origin/backstory at some point. They need to tell the audience about him and about what he wants because, so far, at least as the movies are concerned, there's been no real identification about why he should be considered a threat. I also hope the Russo brothers will be able to rise above a more realistic tone to embrace the cosmic aspects of the story. Winter Soldier was awesome but that kind of tone for Infinity Wars won't bring justice to the story.

A Marvel classic. Thanos vs Inhumans is the most epic part of the story. Seeing as how Inhumans is coming 2019, I guess we won't see that come to life on screen unfortunately

The thanos character remains the most underdeveloped in the mcu as the countdown to infinity war begins. How the russos gon bridge that gap before then?

"Marvel universe unites", "People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie". Now i'll be really disapointed if the Defenders don't show up, at least to help clean up all the dead bodies after the battle.

And i also hope this movie is at least 3 hours long

They better make thanos interesting. So far the only villains in the mcu i like is Abomination, Killgrave, loki and kingpin. Removing the TV ones makes that only 2.
