OFFICIAL: The Russo Brothers Will Direct Marvel's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Movies

It's been known for months now, but Marvel just announced that Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo will be taking over Joss Whedon's Avengers franchise.

It was first reported late last year that Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo were in early talks to take over for Joss Whedon in directing the 2018 and 2019 follow-up to this summer's Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it was also reported two weeks ago that the siblings were near closing a deal. Well, Marvel Studios has now confirmed that, after the Russos helm the much-anticipated Captain America: Civil War which starts filming later this month, the duo will return to the director's chair(s) for Avengers: Infinity War – Part One and Part Two. The "Phase 3" event will be shot back-to-back next year and will see Earth's Mightiest Heroes (with an expanded roster) finally take on the big bad mad titan Thanos, played by Josh Brolin. What do you think?!

As anticipation and excitement build to a fever pitch for Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the blockbuster sequel to the third-largest movie of all time, Marvel is proud to announce Joe and Anthony Russo will join the franchise as the directors of Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1” and “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2.”

The Russo brothers first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” one of the top-grossing film’s from 2014, and are currently preparing to shoot Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War.” The third film in the Captain America franchise will bring the classic storyline from the comics to life pitting Cap (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), as well as introducing Black Panther to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with actor Chadwick Boseman ahead of his own film later in Phase 3.

Before stepping behind the camera for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War,” the Russo brothers served as Executive Producers and directors for many TV series, including “Community" and “Happy Endings." Joe and Anthony earned a Primetime Emmy award for their work directing the pilot episode of the cult-hit “Arrested Development” series. Their film debut was “Welcome to Collinwood", produced by Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney.

They're the guys for the job. Marvel is to the Russos as DC is to Snyder

Let us not forget that Whedon gave us one solid superhero film this century.

He will be missed....

Some bittersweet news. Sad to see Whedon go, but the Russo Brothers are perfect replacements.

Hope Joss is a Producer and/or writer...these guys redefined the MCU, love the choice and happy to hear it! (officially)

black panther did get shafted..for a character we've seen in 5 films for the past 12 years. Whether for not the MCU introduces the best Spider-Man movie ever, fresh blood was pushed back for a safe and popular character with the mainstream media.

Don't let my enthusiasm for the Russos (which is all-encompassing) obscure the fact that I think Whedon has always done right by the franchise.

The Russos are just so so so great.

Awesome.
As much fun as Whedon is with Avengers, the stakes are so much higher and after seeing how great TWS soldier was, they are gonna do amazing things with Infinity War

Yawn...

I hope that Whedon can at least write the script for Infinity War.

This confirms that Black Panther still is a central role. Thank god.

the benefit of having a team direct is that they are lees likely to be completely worn out by the end of filming like Whedon has been after both avengers movies

No one's denying the feats Marvel has accomplished with their films. People are simply acknowledging the fact that Black Panther, a character people have been waiting for YEARS to see on screen, is more or less getting the lime light taken from him in a film coming out in 2016. And said limelight is getting placed on a character we've seen a shit ton of films based around in the 2000's alone.

How about you sit down.

I'm not complaining about his involvement in the third avengers movie, which appears to be heavy and I praise that. And with the Russos directing, this is going to be a really solid team movie.

That's beside the point. The point is, his movie was pushed back for Spider-Man (a movie, that while I hope to be good, is probably going through rushed production) because Marvel Studios appears to value one of the safest/most money loaded characters more than a character that would help increase their cinematic diversity. They're a business, I know, but it still bothers me.

Can't wait to see how the Russos handle Thanos. Hope they make him even more intriguing than how he was in Guardians.

@MarkyMarkRises they're introducing Spider-Man in CIVIL WAR, not giving him an integral arc in it. BP will be the 3rd player behind Cap and Tony.

I assume they are saving the Spider-Man announcement for something bigger.

This will be a huge announcement unlike RDJ's have been.

Dumb choice. Marvel should have went with the Wachowski broth...uhh...oh...yeah. Hmm.

People are upset about Spider-Man being rebooted and done to death but are perfectly fine when the same happens to Batman? Okay.

Bottom-line: I won't take Marvel seriously until they hire Uwe Boll to direct the Inhumans movie.

@DrDoom

Also, GOTG was not dangerous; just because they kept saying how dangerous it was that doesn't mean it was actually risky. A cute little Racoon and a giant Chewbacca-esque talking tree will sell plush toys like hot cakes. Space movies are always popular from big name studios, and the advertising was well done. If it has Marvel on it, it sells; we already knew that, I already knew that.
