AVENGERS: ENDGAME Directors Share Their Thoughts On Whether Gamora Survived Iron Man's Final Snap

Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo have weighed in on whether it's possible that the 2014 era Gamora survived the events of the movie, and elaborate on Iron Man's use of the Infinity Stones.

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark/Iron Man used the Infinity Stones to wipe out Thanos and his army. The effort cost the hero his life, but he succeeded in willing the invaders out of existence.

Did Gamora vanish along with the rest of The Mad Titan's forces? We did see Star-Lord attempting to track the 2014-era Gamora down, but we don't know for sure whether she survived this Snap. Now, directors Joe and Anthony Russo may have now cleared things up...at least somewhat!

Asked if Gamora would have been dusted along with the others, Joe responded: "The argument could be that Tony wished away all the evil. Was she evil or just the enemy? Is she still alive? Who knows, that's a story for another time."

That time will more than likely be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Anthony went on to argue that Gamora's change in allegiance could be what ultimately spared her. "If Tony wanted to get rid of Thanos and his entire army, was she still part of his army?" he asks, seemingly leaving the door open to her return.

It would be strange for Gamora to have died, especially as there's a lot of storytelling potential for Peter Quill to reunite with a version of the woman he loves...before she fell in love with him!

Let us know your theories about Gamora's possible future in the MCU down in the comments section.

Marvel's "Trinity" of superheroes assemble here as they take a break from shooting that epic final battle to watch some of the action unfold. Sadly, this is the final time they'll be together on screen.

Avengers: Endgame takes us back to Asgard in 2013 when Thor is reunited with his mother just hours before she's killed by Malekith. On the left is Sean Gunn, the actor who plays Rocket on set.

As you can see, Brie Larson had that shorter haircut on set but she was wearing the costume from Captain Marvel! Clearly the Russo Brothers decided to later change its appearance with visual effects.

Avengers: Endgame shared by the cast and crew since its release!

Old Man Captain America

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Chris Evans dons some impressive looking prosthetics in order to look like an old man. That likely required him to spend hours in a makeup chair, and the actor recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at the transformation he went through...at the halfway stage!

A Deleted Scarlet Witch Scene

It appears as if a number of small changes were made to the movie's final battle thanks to reshoots, and Elizabeth Olsen shared a video revealing what seems to be an alternate entrance for Scarlet Witch as she lands in the battlefield and takes out a number of soldiers.

In Avengers: Endgame, she first showed up in a confrontation with Thanos that was arguably far more impactful.

Happy Birthday, Josh Brolin

Josh Brolin was lucky enough to celebrate his birthday on the set of Avengers: Endgame and the actor shared this video of the movie's cast wishing (well, singing) him many happy returns. As you can see, it was a rather star-studded celebrations as it was shot during the massive final battle.

Jeremy Renner Becomes Ronin

Jeremy Renner's Avengers: Endgame haircut has had everyone talking for months and in this very cool time-lapse video, the actor shows his hair being chopped off in order to create the archer's new look (so, make sure to show this to your barber if you fancy getting the same thing).

Captain America And Black Panther

In this fantastic behind-the-scenes shot shared by Chris Evans, Captain America stands tall alongside Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther, a character who will more than likely take his place as the leader of the New Avengers as we move into the Phase 4 films.

Marvel's Trinity Battles Thanos

This jaw-dropping BTS video shows Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man squaring off with Josh Brolin's Thanos, and it's going to be great seeing more from this fight once the Blu-ray lands.

Zoe Saldana Becomes Gamora

So, you probably thought that making Gamora look green was a massively complicated process, right? Well, it is (poor Zoe Saldana spends hours in the make-up chair) but who would have thought that she applied her own lipstick to finish off her transformation?

Archery Practice

In this awesome shot shared by the Russo Brothers, Joe gets his hands on Stormbreaker (who cool would it be to be able to buy a replica of that bad boy?) and chats with Chris Hemsworth during what was presumably one of the first days the actor was on set.

What A Cast

Another video from the final battle, this one sees Chris Evans point out a number of moments on set that he enjoyed, many of which would make for hilarious GIFs if we had clearer shots of them!

Thor Dances

Well, this is awesome. In a video shared by Chris Hemsworth, the music takes hold of the God of Thunder and he starts dancing away as the rest of the movie's amazing cast enjoy some lunch.

"Carol Danvers"

Avengers: Endgame was a particularly special experience for Brie Larson as it marked the first time she played Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is a simple behind the scenes shot but marks a touching thank you from the Oscar-winning actress.

Friends Reunited

One of Avengers: Endgame's most touching moments comes when Iron Man is reunited with Spider-Man on the battlefield. After years of putting off that hug, Tony Stark embraces Peter Parker, and the conversation they have in the video above is a little different to the one we saw on screen.

Well, This Is Meme Worthy, Right?

Mark Ruffalo shared this hilarious shot from the set of the movie and, as you can see, it appears as if they're having great fun while sitting in the makeup chair getting ready to shoot their scenes.

Robert Downey Jr. Says Goodbye To The MCU

In this emotional video, Robert Downey Jr. shares a look at his final day on set and pokes fun at Chris Evans saying goodbye to the role of Captain America on social media (which created quite the uproar online as fans assumed that meant he would be killed off).

Archery Practice

Joe Russo's daughter Ava actually played Clint Barton's daughter in Avengers: Endgame and in this video shared by the filmmakers, we get to see just how good she got at archery while filming scenes which were originally going to be used in Avengers: Infinity War.

Snap

One of Avengers: Endgame's editors recently revealed that Robert Downey Jr.'s "I am Iron Man" moment came as a result of reshoots and the photos shared by the actor here are seemingly from the original sequence when he said nothing to Thanos.

Stan Lee's Final Cameo

Avengers: Endgame sadly marks Stan Lee's final cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Russo Brothers shared this touching behind the scenes photo earlier this month in which they're pictured alongside the legendary comic book creator while he's decked out in his 1970s costume.

Avengers: Love Island

A post shared by Karen Gillan (@karengillanofficial) on

You probably won't find this funny unless you live in the UK and know what Love Island is, but in a behind-the-scenes video, Scottish actress Karen Gillan pulled off an excellent English accent to poke fun at the reality TV series while tying it into Avengers: Endgame!

The "Illegal" Video That Started It All

It was Chris Pratt who first shared an "illegal" video from the set of Avengers: Endgame, and we quickly learned that while the cast was told not to film anything, they all had their phones out at key points in production. It's just lucky that none of their devices were hacked over the past year or so.

Women Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Robert Downey Jr. hosted a lunch for the women of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and, as you can see, it's an impressive, amazing group.

After that inspiring A-Force moment in Avengers: Endgame, there are a lot of fans out there who now hope to see the female team assemble one day.

Honestly, I'd rather if she doesn't appear again. Feel like her arc has been completed, and the team coming to grips with her not being there anymore could provide for some great writing. After she wrapped filming for Endgame, she said goodbye to the character and made it clear that it was her understanding, at that point in time, that she was done bringing this character to life. Its obvious that they are letting Gunn decide what to do with her, and whether to bring her back; whatever is best for the story should be followed...

@HeavyMetal4Life - Gunn has already revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is about Gamora. So, she'll definitely return.

@Unites - could be just about them endlessly searching for her only to accept that she’s gone

@Unites - Didn't Gunn say Vol 3 was about Rocket?

Ambiguous? To me they were so clear about it, shes alive when they tell you shes not evil (you can see that in the movie how she behaves).

Then Im pretty sure they will find the way in GOTG3 to put her soul in this Gamora version.
Screencap that.

@FranValle - GOTGV3 will end with Adam Warlock becoming part of the team when he helps do something to Gamora that 'unlocks her true soul' or something like that, which will help bring her closer to being the Gamora we all know. So I think you're right.

Really don't matter now Gamora is dead and won't be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 movie.

Along with Iron-Man, Black Widow and Captain America all dead and will not be in any Real-Time movies.

R.I.P. Fallen Avengers :(

New Avengers 5 Assemble !!!

@DoubleD - Wrong. Gunn ha already said that Guardians 3 revolves around gamora.

She is in it. And alive.
DoubleD
DoubleD - 7/1/2019, 3:56 AM
@CheepTricks - What story ? Where ? How ? Is the movie a pre-quel to Gamora death like Black Widow ? Is Gamora alive where she can be in real-time movies ?
DillonEnnis
DillonEnnis - 7/1/2019, 5:52 AM
@DoubleD - It's a movie based on comic books wherein people die and come back all the time haha
DoubleD
DoubleD - 7/1/2019, 7:45 AM
@DillonEnnis - I agree and until I see Gamora get her soul and life back from Infinity War death she is dead. And not one from alternate time frame.
DillonEnnis
DillonEnnis - 7/1/2019, 8:06 AM
@DoubleD - Yeah sure but that's more just waiting for the story of the 3rd Guardians than saying she 100% can't be in it or it would have to be a prequel

@DoubleD - I'll bet you a one year ban commenting on this site that Gamora will be in Vol 3. Do you accept?
DoubleD
DoubleD - 7/1/2019, 8:43 AM
@GreedoSarducci - I like Gamora and the GoTG members. I hope they do find away to return her soul and revive her from the fall from Infinity War. Until they show me that in GoTG 3 movie she still dead. To much from studios, directors and fans that never end up true. Look at all those WB/DC movies we were promised and never happened.

I'm a major GoTG fan and thought both movies were 5 stars and own both on-line.

And I don't bet on movies at all.

@DoubleD - Thr gamora that went off on her own after the final fight.

Gunn was looking for her at the end of the movie, I'm pretty sure he's gonna encounter her again. Remember, Gamora stayed in the 616 time line and because of the rules of time travel, her existing in another dimension doesn't make her not exist in the 616 dimension. So she is actually alive but has no memory of Guardians or Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2.

Thst means she'll probably have a rle in the next film, for sure.

Either thst or they forget the rules of time travel and just decide to include her to sell more tickets. People don't want Gamora or black widow dead. Like ya said. But the rules of the universe allow for infinite ways for that to happen.

Avengers Endgame GREAT movie but killing Gamora, Iron-Man, Black Widow and Captain America was a HUGE mistake by Russo's and Marvel Studios.

There will be real consequences to pay for fans and Marvel Studios.
WaffeX
WaffeX - 7/1/2019, 3:53 AM
@DoubleD - Captain America was an old man, Gamora died in Infinity War and they brought her back in Endgame and I'm sure she is in GOTG3
DoubleD
DoubleD - 7/1/2019, 4:00 AM
@IcemanX - Captain America is over 100 years old his time is up.

Gamora was just a ghost in Endgame and can't be in real-time movies which I only care about. Black Window and Gamora can't be in Avengers 5 movie their dead.
GarthRanzz
GarthRanzz - 7/1/2019, 4:08 AM
@DoubleD - Iron Man will be back. Way too much money on the table. They even explain how to bring him back in End Game.
DoubleD
DoubleD - 7/1/2019, 4:10 AM
@IcemanX - Gamora, Black Widow, Iron-Man and Captain America can't be in Avengers 5 movie real-time 2019 and beyond movies.

There was real consequences for killing these 4 Avengers. One is they can't be in real time and current movies. Only Pre-quels which means their ghost.
DoubleD
DoubleD - 7/1/2019, 4:15 AM
@GarthRanzz - How can they bring back Iron-Man Real-Time ? I don't want to see Iron-Man in the past like Tony Starks father who is also dead.
Schme83
Schme83 - 7/1/2019, 5:15 AM
@DoubleD - All they have to do is push time through Cap instead of pushing Cap through time like they did with Scott and you got young Cap again.
DoubleD
DoubleD - 7/1/2019, 5:27 AM
@Schme83 - That would work for Captain America. I never even thought of that.
DoubleD
DoubleD - 7/1/2019, 5:31 AM
@Schme83 - BUT the only issue I have with that idea now you can do that for all the older Avengers like Nick Fury, War Machine as Avengers age they could just pull a Scott on them.
Rosraf
Rosraf - 7/1/2019, 5:41 AM
@DoubleD - Or just grab them from another timeline. There are lots of timelines where each character dies, but could instead be pulled out right before they die and brought to current MCU timeline. They should probably close that loophole by making time travel impossible again in some way (unstable pym particles after the second snap or some such).
