The rumor has yet again outed that actor Jeremy Renner will be weilding the bow & arrow as Hawkeye in The Avengers. Check it Out!

Marvel's ultimate clash, The Avengers, has been getting a lot of buzz lately, regarding the additionally cast members, other than Robert Downey as Tony Stark, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Evans as Captain America, and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. News recently broke that actor Kevin Pennington may be tackling the role of Captain Marvel, but has yet to be confirmed.

Now an old casting rumor has rise yet again, coming from Aint It Cool News(Harry Knowles). His possibly solid source says that Jeremy Renner has gone from the Bomb Squad in Iraq to possibly the AVENGERS as the character of HAWKEYE.

Jeremy Renner have previously stated he and The Avengers writer, Zak Penn, had discussed the potential role of Hawkeye for Avengers, but immediately followed that it was just talk, and nothing is official. Like Harry from AICN, take it with a grain of salt, for now.

YES!!!!!!!!! Fantastic find DCMF! :D

Ever since I first found the news in a magazine and posted it on CBM I've hoped that he'd play Hawkeye and so it's great to hear the rumour resurface!

I'm all for him playing the part. Whether they go with the fan fav 616 robin hood version or the special ops Ultimate version (or an amalgam of both), having an academy award nominated actor to play Clint Barton on screen would only add to the legitimacy of this movie.

Now I know Marvel has stated that having "big name actors" is not a priority, but it certainly wouldn't hurt the movie. But if not him, then for sure my runner up is Jensen Ackles. He may just be a CW and direct to video actor (for now), but the guy looks like he was born to play the part.

if he looks like this first Ultimates version..not the one with the face mask, then I think he can pull it off

He's wasn't bomb squad, it's actually called EOD which stands for Explosive Ordinance Disposal. Coming to you from Fort Sam Houston Texas representing Chicago.

Cool news Freshman, I don't want to sound like a dick.

@BlackAirs87

Yup, that's what Renner said last time he talked about it. He was discussing it with the guy who is writing the Avenger screenplay, and said this:

"Yeah, but it's going to be modernized, it's not going to be the guy with the big purple (mask), it's not going to be a guy in tights. It's going to be a guy in sunglasses and a vest. He's going to be more modernized and I'm gonna say, 'A cooler-looking version' and not the big weird costume he had on. I don't think they're going that route."

I like it, he seems to play roles similar to Hawkeye's demeanor so I have know doubt he would pull it off. I was upset when the rumors stopped but I would like to know officially who's going to be in the Avengers. I just think if they put to many people in the movie the story will be rushed.

yes, he gets my vote but i still think jensen would be a better fit

@ iconstatic - I'm ok with him playing the Ultimate version. I can understand why they would want to stay away from a guy whose only contribution to a team with a genetically enhanced soldier, a walking Weapon of Mass Destruction and a living GOD, is a bow and arrow. I don't care if they are "special arrows", it just won't cut it. Hopefully they will at least have him use a one handed bow (I know they have a name for it, just can't remember it) like GA uses in Smallville, at least as a reference to his 616 counter part. But, I'd be glad to have Hawkeye in the movie regardless simply because he is a bad ass mofo and would add to the chemistry of these characters on screen.

p.s. Teabag, you are hilarious mate!

@ telavizion - not really man. Hawkeye is not that iconic. Sure it can't just be anybody playing him (no to Woody Allen or Woody Harrelson for that matter), but his "look" fits in with "average" quite a bit IMO ...

At this point I really don't care.

I like Jensen Ackles for the role....but yeah on the other hand Woody Harrelson would rule as Hawkeye!

I would still like it if he started off as a criminal like in the comics. Also, as long as he has Bullseye level accuracy he can be valuable to the team even with all the heavy hitters. One thing I do like about the Ultimate version is how fast they indicated he was with the bow. When the action started you didn't see him draw the bow, there were just suddenly dozens of arrows in the air (and peoples heads).

iconstatic - 5/26/2010, 7:32 AM
@Romack
Yes, the metahuman aspect would certainly make him a lot more useful to the team. Not sure if they'd go the "reformed criminal" aspect, other than some sort throwaway line. If Black Widow is in it, I'd imagine they'd give him the metahuman aspect just to avoid making him redundant.

McLovin@ Hawkeye's the leader of the new Avengers right now (and what's far more important, he even lead the West Coast Avengers :)
McLovin
McLovin - 5/26/2010, 8:01 AM
@cologne - Hey, I like the character. I'm not saying he is irrelevant, I'm just saying he hasn't reached "iconic" status. The general audience has no idea who Hawkeye is and he could be played by any actor. Filipino, Mexican or Nigerian and it wouldn't make a difference to anybody but comic book fans.

"I would still like it if he started off as a criminal like in the comics"

@MassExecutions1: I would like it if they ~hinted~ that he was a criminal/illegal of some sort. Given the limited time a movie has, I'd like it if they shy away from backstory a bit, and just show him in a SHIELD holding cell, or already as an AVENGER INITIATIVE recruit, with Fury or Widow mentioning that it's either that or back to prison for him.

That's actually a good point. Perhaps!!
@Massexecution

Didn't Mark Millar say that's a story he plans on telling in Ultimate Avengers?

@iconstatic - Yeah, I do think that Mark Miller recently said he would be exploring Ultimate Hawkeye's criminal back ground.

@surtur - I would like to see him start as a criminal because you could have some great interaction with him and Cap. Cap could see that he was basically a good guy, and stand up for him and win him over. Hawkeye should be really irresponsible, arrogant, and full of authority issues. Cap can start bringing him around to being a team player. That would be great. To bad there probably wouldn't be room for this in the first movie with so much else going on.

iconstatic - 5/26/2010, 9:22 AM
@Mclovin
You are totally correct, which is why he will likely not be in purple tights. Aside from looking really stupid in RL, it's not even remotely iconic, so you don't have to worry about people crying about how they "changed Hawkeye from his classic form!!"

Alan Alda for Hawkeye...?? I'm getting a bit confused here. LOL

Anyway I really like Renner, and i think he would make a decent Barton, but I still think this rumor is baloney
