Jeremy Renner Hints Once Again Hawkeye Will Use a Bow in The Avengers!

Jeremy Renner says he will practice archery to prepare for the part of Hawkeye in The Avengers.

There has been an ongoing debate around CBM lately concerning a certain bruise colored archer named Hawkeye. It seems many readers on this site either don't want, or don't think Hawkeye should be featured with his famous bow in 2012's The Avengers, instead opting for him to feature guns.

We have already heard director Joss Whedon drop hints that he would at least make use of a bow in the film. CBM's Wolvie09 reported recently that Renner himself told MTV, "I just have to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow!"

Now, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Renner once again alludes to the fact that he will indeed be sporting his legendary bow.

Are you ready for your role as Hawkeye in “The Avengers”?

It was in my consciousness for sure, and I know what I want to do to prepare, but right now I’m preparing for “Mission Impossible IV.” Cause that came into my life very quickly. Actually I’m going to do stunt training right after this.

What do you know about your character Hawkeye? Have you seen a costume sketch?

I’m blind to all that sort of thing. I know very little about the story. I know a little about the character and how I want to approach it. It’s a very physical character. I’ll be doing archery and training physically as much as I can. Then once I get a script I can dig into the heart of who this guy is.

Hawksblueyes: I love this news. I don't mind if he picks up a gun at some point during the movie but I sure didn't want him to feature one. Hawkeye is an archer, I'm glad they will keep him an archer for the film.

I'm liking this guy.

Good stuff Hawks.

Wolvie posted an interview a couple of days ago, and Renner says he's got to learn to shoot a bow and arrow.

He keeps slamming that point home!

Of course he's gonna use a bow,,,, he's [frick]ing HAWKEYE????

LMAO!

It would be like CAP with no shield, or THOR with no hammer or PUNISHER with no guns!

Bwahahahhahahahhaha!!!

Hawksblueyes - 9/17/2010, 2:30 PM
LEEE: That's what I would have thought also but reading some of the readers comments on the Hawkeye threads, it seems many people want him using a gun instead.

ElBicho: Is it this same report? I didn't see his.

Hawksblueyes @ It sickens me ppl want HAWKEYE to use a gun?!?

He ain't the PUNISHER and why would they need the PUNISHER in an AVENGERS team!?

Damn sad... seriously next ppl will want GREEN ARROW to have an UZI or ROBIN HOOD to have a BAZOOKA! : p

Cool find by the way man!

You're good, it was a different interview. Guess I should've clarified when I said that he keeps slamming that point home.

His whole skill and being of being HAWKEYE is he's a skilled archer @ OdinsBeard WTF lol??????

A gun is just lame.

ElBicho: I can't be that good. I searched for and found Wolvie's article. When I found it I discovered that I had not only read it but commented on it. Thanks for pointing it out to me though. It's from two seperate reports so I added his info to mine. =D

I agree with everyone here who is saying this should be obvious. Hawkeye is my favorite character, period. He is also an archer. Yet, if you go on some recent articles, especially Ror's article from the other day, you will see many comments stating the bow is silly for the movie, they want him using guns.

Thank you for this news HAWKS! I can accept a more realistic version of the costume, but guns instead of his trademark bow and arrow? [frick] that! :D

For what its worth my girlfriend is friends with one of the costume designers for Hawkeye. He told me months ago the costume is "Purplish" and he will be using a bow. I was suprised. I thought for sure they'd go the Ultimates route. Glad to know other wise. He also said Renner is a really nice guy and is excited about the role.

BillyBlack - 9/17/2010, 4:21 PM
Damn!

I was really hoping they woulda gone with the lesser known blow-gun version of Hawkeye.
Phileo26
Phileo26 - 9/17/2010, 4:36 PM
Good, using a bow is a MUST for me. I don't want the character to be too far from the character in the comics.

Josh: Don't mention it. This makes me happy, happy as well.

longbowhunter: That is killer news to hear. Tell him if he wants to risk his job, he can e-mail me with a full discription. =D

Billy: I know this sounds like sort of a duh article man but there are many readers on here who have been saying they want him using a gun and the bow idea wouldn't work next to the other Avengers.
kitboy33
kitboy33 - 9/17/2010, 4:51 PM
It's gotta be a bow or why even bother having him in the movie?!
Besides...just think of all the cool arrows Stark will make for him...it'll be killer!
Ya won't get the same effect from "special bullets"...yeesh!
longbowhunter
longbowhunter - 9/17/2010, 4:51 PM
@Hawksblueeyes, Haha yeah thats the reason I've stayed kinda' tight lipped about it and not probed him for more information. If the kid is lucky enough to score a job working on the Avengers straight outta' college I dont wanna be the one to screw it up for him.
LucasMend
LucasMend - 9/17/2010, 5:11 PM
Good Good! Well Hawkeye is not Hawkeye without the bow and the arrow right?
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 9/17/2010, 5:22 PM
longbow: I understand completely. I would be the same way.

I have talked with only one person myself, who was involved with any of these films and I asked him 3 seperate times if it was okay to quote him in an article, just to make sure. I definately don't want to jeapordize anyones career just so I can mark an article as a scoop.

weneed: A bazooka is absolutely no help when you are full of arrows before you can fire it.

While we are at it, if you don't think Hawkeyes almost inhuman accuracy and speed with a bow would fare well against a guy with a bazooka, why would you think Cap would fare any better with only his shield?

You're willing to suspend you're disbelief for one but not the other?
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 9/17/2010, 7:58 PM
Let's not forget that he also happens to be trained in all forms of hand to hand combat by none other than Captain America. Hawkeye is for all intent and purpose a slightly weaker, slightly slower, Captain America. A version of Cap who has a superhuman skill set with a bow and no aversion to killing. He will take that extra step.

Oh yeah. He also has a habit of thinking way outside the box. When the team does one thing, he usually has another whole situation working, just in case.

Intruder: I would make that 95% of all other heroes, most of whom have a much higher power level.
