Kevin Feige Confirms That ETERNALS Is In Development And The Lead Character May Have Been Revealed

There have been rumblings for a while now that an Eternals movie is in development at Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige has confirmed that the project is indeed in the very early stages of becoming a reality. Asked during a recent interview whether or not those reports are accurate, he made it clear that it's one of many movies currently on the docket as the studio looks past Avengers 4 and into Phase 4.

"‘Eternals’ is one of many many many things that we are actively beginning to have creative discussions about to see if we believe in them enough to put them on a slate," he tells The Wrap. "We have started working on what are the films post-phase 3." It's an unexpected choice but one which makes sense given the success Marvel found with the similarly obscure Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Eternals were created by Jack Kirby and their ties to the Celestials mean Marvel has the opportunity to delve deep into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's cosmic history. The site adds that multiple screenwriters have met with the studio about the project and the current plan is reportedly for the female Eternal known as Sersi to be the lead. The hero can manipulate cosmic energy to grant herself virtual immortality, invulnerability, and reshape the molecules of other people or objects.

So, the project is definitely taking shape and while it's not guaranteed to happen, a female-led cosmic movie like this has all the ingredients to be a hit. What do you guys think? Sound off down below.

If it makes the slate, the only thing I ask is that they stick with it and don’t pull an “Inhumans”.

@JourneyIntoMystery - When Marvel announced Phase 3, it was in response to DC/WB announcing their slate of films. The only one of Marvel's announcements that did not come to pass was Inhumans.

Shall we take a look at DC's slate and see how many of THOSE films came to pass?

@crawley - ok? All I meant by my comment is that I was excited to see them done right on screen and it was massacred. I don’t think I’m in the minority when I say that I was bummed by it. I don’t think bringing up how shitty DC movies are right now really is relevant.

@crawley - It wasn't in response to DC though because Marvel had booked the El Capitan theater weeks in advance to make this announcement, which they weren't ready to do yet at Comic Con earlier that year.

@crawley - Funny to see that when someone is talking about a bad thing from the MCU it necessarly means he is a DC Fanboys... Even though he has a Thor avatar

Some people really need to relax and grow up a little

Yass!

Never heard about Sersi, I thought it would be Ikaris but ok then.

@NinnesMBC - Sersi being the lead makes sense, given her time as an Avenger in the late 80’s and early 90’s runs of the title.

@FlixMentallo21 - I didn’t know that either. So there is a background presedence and just reading Wikipedia proves here that it doesn’t always gives you the full picture. Thank you for the info.

Off-topic: when you have access to the Infinity War production notes and can post them on here with a few button presses, but you don't wanna press those buttons because the notes might contain spoilers:

Makes sense, she was always the most popular Eternal. And besides Ikaris my personal favorite.
Really excited for this project.

Man Kevin has got to be sick of being asked things that he can't give an answer too, press has got to be hell for an MCU film anymore especially one as big as infinity war but Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown. I don't know anything about the Eternals but Marvels earned my trust so they can do whatever the hell they want.

I was searching The Eternals weeks back when it was a rumor, and damn that looks nuts yet very interesting. If it makes it to the slate then great keep expanding, in the meanwhile i'll be looking for some of their comics and educate myself a bit.

It could work. The concept of Gaiman's work on the characters was intriguing and could be ripe for adapting imo.

I loved the tagline: "You are thousands of years old. You have amazing powers. You have watched civilizations rise and fall. So why does no one remember any of this?"

People SHIT on the idea of the Guardians getting a movie. If you can get a really really good director and DONT make it like the Guardians. Don’t make it a comedy. This can work. Marvel doesn’t let me down much so while I don’t know much about them I feel it can work. It will be Kirby crazy which is awesom
