RUMOR: Marvel Studios' YOUNG AVENGERS Plans Ramp Up But Other Teenage Superheroes Will Likely Be Sidelined

We have a few minor updates on Marvel Studios' Young Avengers plans, but some popular teenage superheroes who were last utilised by Marvel Television may remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

We've been hearing rumblings about a Young Avengers movie or TV show for several years now, with the closest we've come to that being at the end of The Marvels when Ms. Marvel attempted to recruit Kate Bishop/Hawkeye to a team she's started assembling.

However, at this rate, the MCU's Young Avengers won't be young for very long!

In a rumour roundup shared by The Cosmic Circus, Alex Perez claims Young Avengers will likely head our way before movies like Scarlet Witch and Thor 5, suggesting Marvel Studios is finally getting serious about bringing these heroes together.

Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how a movie like this fares at the box office, particularly if it's released before Avengers 5

As for whether the project will finally unite Wiccan and Hulkling, a popular LGBTQ+ couple in the comics, Perez seems confident it's going to happen. "Billy isn’t even the Wiccan yet. But be patient," he teases. "I expect them to meet in the upcoming Young Avengers movie."

We'll first meet Billy Kaplan in Agatha All Along and, elsewhere in this report, it's said the title character will open the door to exploring "a more unknown side of the MCU with witches and another form of magic" in a way that affects future projects.

As for some of the Marvel Universe's other teenage heroes, Perez states that there are currently no plans for Cloak and Dagger or the Runaways, characters who previously took centre stage in Marvel Television streaming shows.

He also believes we won't see Iron Fist (presumably the younger Lin Lie version) in Shang-Chi 2 despite claims to the contrary. On the plus side, there are supposedly big plans for Florence Pugh beyond Thunderbolts*.

"In my head, she's going to be Captain America mixed with Nick Fury," Iman Vellani previously said of Ms. Marvel's place in the Young Avengers. "She'll know what's on the roster for the day, but is also a natural born leader. It would be such a natural progression for her character to lead a team."

As for possible teammates, she added, "Ironheart would be fun. I also want to say Kid Loki, because he's the only guy I could think of. Well, him and Patriot, I guess. And maybe Billy and Tommy, although they aren't as fleshed out in the MCU yet. I'm excited to see if any of those storylines go anywhere."

Stay tuned for updates on Young Avengers as we have them.

Young Avengers should not be a movie. Have you learned nothing from The Marvels? It should be a TV show.

Oh but Avengers is too big for TV.
But it's not The Avengers it's Young Avengers and it could serve as a promotional build-up to Avengers 5 with Kang as the main villain.
Something that you don't NEED to see to understand A5 but that if you do watch it'll really start building the hype.

If you make a movie out of a TV show it will feel small (like The Marvels).
If you make a TV show out of a movie franchise as big as The Avengers it'll be HUUUUGGE!

@ObserverIO - Exactly, they've introduced most of the characters through Disney Plus, so make sense to be a movie or show for Disney Plus.

@ObserverIO - Said all along that if doing Young Avengers it should be a show, least if dropping prior to Secret Wars, and start setting that up in a second season of Ms. Marvel. We need a firm focus on who the main Avengers will be for Avengers 5, and Avengers 6 will likely be a multiverse Avengers team so having a third film with Avengers in the title (ie Young Avengers) would be daft even if they DID have a strong enough story and cast for it to be on the big screen.

Give it a full season at least of a Young Avengers show, maybe a couple seasons, then maybe in the next saga they could promote them to having a film (maybe have Spider-man appear in it as same age range to boost interest).

Please don’t waste a movie slot on this garbage. Look at the Marvels, aiming the MCU at a younger audience just doesn’t work.

OFF TOPIC

Is Captain America: Brave New World Adapting The Gamma Corp? The Gamma Corp is in World War Hulk comic series.

Captain America: Brave New World introduces Sam Wilson as Cap and includes strong Hulk characters, possible Gamma Corp presence.

Potential storyline: Government manipulation, intrigue, and trust themes could be explored with the introduction of the Gamma Corps.

Ok, look. No one wants this.

First of all, this is one of those concepts that works better on the pages than it does in live action.

Second, considering the line up they currently have you'd basically be proving south park right (for the 50th time).
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/11/2024, 7:07 AM
@Origame - Apart from Ms Marvel, they basically have the original comics line-up.

I mean they'll probably switch out Iron Lad for Ironheart (replacing a male character with a female character), but that'll be the only 'woke' change they'd be making. The book is already pretty woke as is, there's a gay couple on the team. So DEI would be satisfied if they just did a straight adaptation.

@ObserverIO - there's also zero evidence patriot will be in it and hulkling still doesn't exist in the mcu. So we have basically exclusively women with the exception of maybe Wiccan depending on the context from Agatha.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/11/2024, 1:01 PM
@Origame - I'm thinking maybe they'll replace Hulkling with Skaar probably. But gay. I mean gayer, lol.

@ObserverIO - hey. We can't call skaar gay.

Gay people style their hair better than that.

The fact they are making Ms Marvel the leader instead of Patriot or Kate Bishop (or Iron Lad if they ever introduce him, although I have a feeling they will use Ironheart instead), is kind of annoying.

And Hulkling and Wiccan should be a priority. They are one of the very few gay couples in Marvel that actually feel natural and were written very well.

@CorndogBurglar - She's easily the most popular of those characters, with the most mainstream recognition. It makes perfect sense IMO.

This property will not have mass appeal. It should be a Disney plus production. If they insist on doing a movie, just keep the budget small because this won’t be earning more than $200 million.

Before Scarlet Witch and Thor 5 is a really broad window, given those aren't even official. Think they should make it a show anyway though.

Apophis71 - 6/11/2024, 9:28 AM
@RitoRevolto - Most likely use Skaar as a replacement for Hulkling and merge those two characters tbh, yeh I know he looked awful in the end credit of She-Hulk but if they improve how he looks (A LOT) when he next appears one blink and you miss it, easily forgotten, bit of dodgy CGI with no dialogue aint an issue.
RitoRevolto
RitoRevolto - 6/11/2024, 9:40 AM
@Apophis71 - I assumed that was going to be the case the instant he showed up, and, honestly, I hate that lol.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/11/2024, 9:49 AM
@RitoRevolto - Which I get, anyone who loves Skaar from the comics wouldn't want him merged with Hulkling and likely vice versa but it could work I guess and most the GA likely don't know either character and/or attached enough to them to mind.

Here's a better idea. Kill the MCU for a while. There is a decent slate coming out with Deadpool, Thunderbolts and Captain America. Stop making more and just do one big Avengers movie (not two) to wrap up the whole multiverse thing. Then use Fantastic Four as the basis of a reboot and start over with new versions of the characters everyone loves.
