We've seen quite a few photos and videos from the set of Batgirl at this stage, giving us first looks at star Leslie Grace suited-up as the titular hero alongside cos-stars Brendan Fraser, Jacob Scipio and Ivory Aquino. Now, we finally have a glimpse of J.K. Simmons, who will reprise the role of Jim Gordon.
The Spider-Man: No Way Home actor was spotted wearing a mask, but we can see that he's sporting the same (or similar) classic hat and coat combo we saw in Gordon's previous DCEU appearances.
Simmons made his debut as the iconic DC Comics character in the theatrical version of Justice League before returning for the "Snyder Cut" of the movie. It was generally assumed that the role would be recast (Jeffrey Wright will play a different take on Gordon in The Batman) when Warner Bros. confirmed that the "SnyderVerse" would be left behind, so it was somewhat surprising when it was announced that he'd be back for Batgirl.
We still don't know how big a part the GCPD Commissioner will have to play, but Simmons' involvement would seem to suggest that WB won't be completely ditching the SnyderVerse!
UPDATE: Here's a better look.
Loki composer Natalie Holt recently announced that she's signed on to work on the movie's score, while Christina Hodson, who wrote Bumblebee and also worked on Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the most recent draft of the script.
The HBO Max movie is being directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. No release date has been announced.
