Both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will reprise their respective Batman roles for The Flash movie, but it sounds like only one of them will be staying on in the DC Films Universe proper as The Dark Knight.
Some quotes from a recent NY Times interview with Warner Bros. chief Walter Hamada have been doing the rounds, and while it might be a stretch to say the article officially confirms that Affleck won't be back as Batman after the Scarlet Speedster's solo outing, it does appear to suggest that only Keaton will return for future films.
The piece states that "Warner Bros. will have two different film sagas involving Batman — played by two different actors — running at the same time."
Writer Brooks Barnes has since taken to Twitter to confirm that he was referring to Robert Pattinson and Michael Keaton.
This has given way to a predictable glut of "Affleck out as Batman again!" clickbait, but we're not jumping to any conclusions just yet. At the very least, it seems we can expect Keaton to return as his older take on the Caped Crusader, either in a direct sequel to The Flash or his own spinoff.
Could we get a live-action take on The Dark Knight Returns or Batman Beyond at some point? We'll just have to wait and see.
