BATMAN: It Sounds Like Michael Keaton, Not Ben Affleck, Will Be Staying On As The DCEU's Dark Knight

WB's Walter Hamada appears to have confirmed that Michael Keaton will be staying on as the DCEU's Batman following his appearance in The Flash. Where does that leave Ben Affleck's Dark Knight? Update...

Both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will reprise their respective Batman roles for The Flash movie, but it sounds like only one of them will be staying on in the DC Films Universe proper as The Dark Knight.

Some quotes from a recent NY Times interview with Warner Bros. chief Walter Hamada have been doing the rounds, and while it might be a stretch to say the article officially confirms that Affleck won't be back as Batman after the Scarlet Speedster's solo outing, it does appear to suggest that only Keaton will return for future films.

The piece states that "Warner Bros. will have two different film sagas involving Batman — played by two different actors — running at the same time."

Writer Brooks Barnes has since taken to Twitter to confirm that he was referring to Robert Pattinson and Michael Keaton.

This has given way to a predictable glut of "Affleck out as Batman again!" clickbait, but we're not jumping to any conclusions just yet. At the very least, it seems we can expect Keaton to return as his older take on the Caped Crusader, either in a direct sequel to The Flash or his own spinoff.

Could we get a live-action take on The Dark Knight Returns or Batman Beyond at some point? We'll just have to wait and see.

What do you guys make of this? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

UPDATE: Barnes has now clarified his Tweet with the following:

If this is Batman Beyond, great!
If not, [frick] it

@Dredd97 - I'm guessing batman beyond. I really don't see them folding the keaton batman into the dceu and just making him the de facto batman. Maybe if they didn't already have the new batman they're clearly building a series around with a tv show as well, but as is I just can't see this.

Wish Warner bros would quit announcing stuff before even filming anything. The flash movie is yet to start filming. Id be glad to see Keaton back but WB's overzealousness to announce before even having a roadmap is horrid.

@Ojeet78 - Who cares if the flash movie happens, im sure they could explain Keaton another way and if they dont explain, who cares. We will have Michael [frick]ing Keaton back

@dracula - Well you say this, yet so many people are complaining about wonder woman 2 ignoring the events of the dceu, so who knows.

@Origame - Really at this point might as well make every series stand alone

@dracula - I do care for the Flash movie cause the Flash has always been the reset button for the DCuniverse. They've been talking about Flashpoint since BvS came out and since then we've had no solo Flash film, no Superman , no Nightwing movie just a bunch of random films with no connecting thread. I dont mind there not being a connected universe but if WB built up all this hype for a shared DCeu , shouldnt they follow up on it. Constant bickering, fallouts, creative differences . Really terrible. They did this fandome thing , built up hype and then delayed all the movies by a year. We've already gotten into the spiderverse, and now we'll have a live action Spiderverse before even a single scene on the Flash is filmed. I love my comics and all I ask is for these characters to be shown some amount of respect. If Warner Bros has no idea what they are doing, they should atleast have the decency to not drum up fanfare for something that may not happen. I'd be ecstatic to have Keaton back but as is with Wb , my expectations are way beyond negative.

@Origame - how does Wonder Woman contradict anything she was never publicly seen by everyone that I remember, there definitely would have been reports of her but she wouldn’t have been a famous superhero
