It might be difficult to imagine anyone other than Michelle Pfeiffer bringing life to Catwoman in Batman Returns, but the Ant-Man and the Wasp actress wasn't actually Warner Bros. and director Tim Burton's first choice for the role, as none other than Madonna was originally offered the part.
This rumor has been doing the rounds for many years, but the pop megastar finally confirmed that, yes, she was indeed given the opportunity to suit-up as the Dark Knight's feline foe in the 1992 sequel - and regrets turning it down.
"I regret that I turned down Catwoman. That was pretty fierce,” Madonna told host Jimmy Fallon during her appearance on the Tonight Show, while revealing that she also passed up the lead in Showgirls and a role in The Matrix. “That’s like one of the best movies ever made,” she added. “A teeny tiny part of me regrets just that one moment in my life.”
The iconic performer didn't specify which part she was offered in The Matrix, but we assume it was the female lead, Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss). Madonna has never appeared in a superhero movie, but she did have a memorable turn as Breathless Mahoney in 1990's Dick Tracy. She also played Verity in Die Another Day.
