The latest box office estimates for The Batman predict a $100M+ opening weekend for the movie when it hits U.S. theaters this Friday, but Matt Reeves' critically-acclaimed reboot is already off to a great start overseas.
Warner Bros.' latest big-screen outing for The Dark Knight began its international rollout in Korea today (they're 14 hours ahead), and has already taken in a very impressive $1.7 million. This gives the studio its biggest opening day in the country in years, beating Aquaman’s $1.1M and Joker’s $1.5M. It also marks the fourth-highest opening day of the "pandemic era," coming in under Spider-Man: No Way Home ($5.3M), F9 ($3.3M) and Marvel's Eternals ($2.3M).
The near three hour run-time is not expected to have much of a negative impact on audience attendance (it certainly hasn't on ticket sales), and the highly positive critical reaction certainly won't hurt. The movie currently sits at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes after a slight dip, but there are plenty more verdits to come.

"Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens."
“When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”
The Batman is rated PG-13 for “strong violence, disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and some suggestive material.” The movie is set to hit theaters on March 4.
