THE BATMAN Casts Newcomer Jayme Lawson In A Key Mystery Role - Could She Be BATGIRL?

Here's some casting news that was probably not on anyone's radar as it's being reported that up-and-coming actress and recent Juilliard grad Jayme Lawson has been cast in Matt Reeves' The Batman!

It may be a holiday, but that's not stopping the news cycle from churning as Collider is reporting that newcomer Jayme Lawson has joined the cast of Matt Reeves' The Batman in a key role, but further details on said role are currently being kept locked away at Arkham.

Considering Warner Bros. wasn't particularly tight-lipped about the prior castings and the roles they'd be inhabiting, it is a bit peculiar that they're withholding information regarding Lawson's role, which does beg the question - Could she be playing the daughter of Jeffrey Wright's Commissioner Gordon: Barbara, a.k.a. Batgirl?

The recent Juilliard graduate now joins a cast headlined by Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse), who will star as the titular Dark Knight, and will also feature Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Commissioner James Gordon, Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Andy Serkis (Black Panther) as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them).

As for who fans should expect to hear about next, it's widely believed that Harvey Dent will be cast relatively soon, if not by the end of this week. Variety's Justin Kroll previously reported that an actor from the cast of HBO's Succession (later revealed to be Jeremy Strong) had already passed on the part.

Matt Reeves is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin (Little Fish). Production is expected to commence at the end of 2019 or early 2020.

The Batman hits theaters June 25, 2021.

This cast is so strange. Not really how you'd imagine any of the characters to look (even Pattinson), but fantastic enough actors to make it work and their own.

@Darth258 - Yo real talk, like I'm all for casting whoever is best for the role regardless of color. But Hollywood for real is trying to commit casting genocide upon redheads.

And as a black man who is relentlessly attracted to redheads we are about to have an issue!
