It's been a while since we had any updates on this one, but Warner Bros. (via SFFGazette.com) has now debuted a (brief) first teaser promo for Parasite director Bong Joon Ho's new film, Mickey 17, which is set to hit theaters on March 29, 2024.
Based on the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, the sci-fi thriller stars Robert Pattinson (The Batman, Tenet) as the title character: a disposable employee known as an "Expendable" who regenerates after every mission.
Plot details are few and far between, but the book follows Mickey "on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey7. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal… and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it."
Although the film will be inspired by its source material, it's not expected to be completely faithful to the story. Joon Ho will also produce the project for his production company Offscreen alongside Dooho Choi for Kate Street Picture Company and Plan B.
Check out the teaser below.
Mickey 17 also stars Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo and Steven Yeun.
