UPDATE: Warner Bros. Considering Canceling ALL Showings Of The Dark Knight Rises

Not just Paris but showings for The Dark Knight Rises may be halted everywhere in the wake of this senseless tragedy. The debate has already started as to whether or not WB should press on.

The Wrap reports that Warner Bros., the studio behind The Dark Knight Rises is torn on whether to cancel movie showings across the country after the senseless tragedy in Colorado.

An executive reportedly told the site that "Warner was watching the situation and still considering whether to take further measures beyond cancelling the Paris premiere, including cancelling screenings at theater chains".

Reported mere moments ago, opinions have already sprung up about whether WB should press forward or halt and re-release a few months down the line. Nothing has been decided at this point however. Personally, I think it should be pulled, at least for a week, until all the facts are gathered.

UPDATE: E! reports that they contacted their own source at Warner Bros. regarding a possible cancellation of screenings who said, "he'd be 'shocked if that happened, but it's such an unprecedented situation.' The reports notes that the source was contacted prior to the report from The Wrap however. Keep in mind that it was only reported that WB is considering this move and nothing has been officially announced by the studio.

UPDATE #2: Reports are coming in that the movie will likely not be halted by Warner Bros. although there's still no official word. All planned publicity events for the film's stars have been halted and all advertisement for the film has been removed from television.

Running Time: 2 hrs 45 min
Release Date: July 20 2012 (USA)
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Starring: Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman
Directed by: Christopher Nolan
Written by: Jonathan Nolan (screenplay), Christopher Nolan (screenplay), David S. Goyer (story)

The Dark Knight Rises is an upcoming superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan and the story with David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film will be the third installment in Nolan's Batman film series, and is a sequel to Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). The Dark Knight Rises is intended to be the conclusion of the series. It stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman. The film will take place eight years after the events of The Dark Knight and will introduce the characters of Selina Kyle and Bane—portrayed by Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy, respectively—two villains from the Batman mythology.

I agree with holding it off a bit until all the facts are gathered.

This saddens me to no end. As a Brit we will probably still have it here. The tragedy many have suffered is horrific. People say that geeks take their passion too far with collectibles and what not, but if the rumours that this guy was wearing a mask akin to Banes, then its the flipside of that coin. My thoughts are with the survivors and the families of those who lost someone.

I already bought tickets for this when it comes out next week wednesday if they pull the screening I will be pissed. They shouldnt punish the whole world due to one little desperate idiot that shot 65+ people in a cinema.

If he was in a Bane costume, then yeah, I would say pull it. But I personally believe that they shouldn't. Like Josh said on Twitter, don't let this monster win.

this is so sad. i could see if the movie was causing mass hysteria or people were having siezures in the theatre from sequences of images flashing on the screen, as a reason to pull the movie completely.
as tragic as this was i believe its an isolated incident but i fear that this tragic incident is going to cause a huge uneccesary debate about gun control and violence in the media.

Jesus. It's a shame it only takes one idiot to do all this. My thoughts are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the shooting.

I just hope this tragedy won't give this flawed film sympathetic positive reviews like the last one and as cold as it may sound it wasn't a smart move to cancel off the paris premiere because paris had nothing to do with colarado situation. They should have cancelled a day from colarado and the movie had nothing to do with the shooting unless he is a nolanite posing around as bane. It could have been any movie.

Glad I've seen it, then. But, after watching the Denver fiasco on the news most of us in there were more than a little scared. It's a good film, but it ain't worth being shot over. Everyone who came in that looked a litle bit dodgy, I was suspicious of. And just the fact that there were people behind me was unnerving. I think people would enjoy this film a lot more, once all this fuss has died down. I'd definitely hold off for a week or two, if I was WB.

I wanted to see the movie too, but out of respect for the families and the victims, at least postpone it to show that real life is more important than a movie.

the movie had nothing to do with the psycho he could have flipped in a magic mike screening

Pulling this movie gives these idiots just what they want, to grind everyone to a halt to take time to solidly focus on what they did. They stand in the spot light and have all eyes on them regardless of the circumstances. It's horrible, but to shut down screenings only seeks to give a psychopath the platform he wanted in the first place. Honor the dead, grieve, and be saddened and angered by what this idiot did. But don't give him the satisfaction of bringing us all to a halt while he enjoys the show.

That's my point, the movie is irrelevant. Let the people who want to enjoy the movie enjoy it.

giving any other terrorist or nut job the ability to decide the policy of anything in this way would be the biggest mistake i've ever heard a company make. There aren't going to be a rash of shootings. you ignore these people not let them get to you so easily. That is how these things increase

I actually think canceling the showings would be a disservice to the victims. I'm watching the film tonight with my friend, partly to celebrate those taken in this tragedy. I'm sure they were people who loved stories and wanted to be immersed in a different world, much like us. They will be watching with us from above as fellow passionate audience members who love storytelling. RIP

@darkmetal and others. Can we spend one day not politicizing this event or blaming the guns. He could have easily done the same damage with a bomb in a backpack filled with ball bearings. Do we ban back packs? You can not legislate your way out of evil. Someone like this psychopath will find a way to commit his crimes regardless. Stay focused on the man responsible and the victims. Guns are just tools, like back packs. In the hands of the wrong person they can be used to create carnage.

Hrm, it's a bad measure. They're taking full responsibility for the tragedy this way, when we all know it was the doings of a madman. If they are to show respect and concern to the victims, it would be better (and I'd be surprised if someon disagreed with me on this) if they helped them with what has happened (that'd be, either paying a percentage of their medical bills, and so on). If they are going to take responsibility for what happened, at least they should do something that is REALLY useful, rather than just symbolical and pointless.

I didn't know what to say or feel or think after I heard this. To say anything would not be able to express how tragic this event is. It seriously brings tears to my eyes to think about how the people who were just out to watch a movie had their lives ended by some deranged maniac. My heart goes out to the people affected.

WB should pull it out of the theaters and release it later. I think that would be the right thing to do.

Ok, I have seen it so this isn't why I'm saying this, but no way should this be pulled! I mean I'm sorry but if this happened in the middle of The Lorax would they pull that too? No. They wouldn't. It's nothing to do with the film it's the nut job that pulled the trigger.

The reason they probably doing this is because theyre certain they'll lose money this wknd because people will be too afraid to go see it. It's about money. My thoughts go out to the victims families.

That's completely retarded. Colorado has my complete sympathy and whoever was hurt or killed, but in no way should that stop a film from being distributed. That was an isolated incident and they're blowing this crap way out of proportion.

WB is screwing themselves if they all of a sudden pull the plug for a few months. I'd love to see all the reactions and refunds being handed out from all of the bought tickets.

You know it's sad because for almost 2 years everyone on here has been arguing about who's gonna finish with a bigger weekend. This tragedy will make that arguement void. And I think we are all united on here that this goes beyond all the petty arguing on here and we all feel horrible for the victims, who share a love for these movies just like us. And shouldn't have to worry about some asshole like this. Very sad.

Its like a scene straight from a comic book, except with no superhero to save the day. What a tragedy. During a celebration of the triumph of good battling evil, real evil kicks in the door and takes a massive toll in human life and suffering. It's as if the Joker himself did this. But where is Batman? He's not here. What worse awakening from the adored imaginings of fans to realize that death is real, evil is real, and heroes don't always fly in in time to save everyone.

That said, my hats off to the brave men and women who responded to the scene and continue to serve us every day. In this world, a hero takes different forms than how we imagine them.

In this world...
