Why this new Bourne movie (if the studio doesn't throw it away) shouldn't be made

Why this new Bourne movie (if the studio doesn't throw it away) shouldn't be made

My thoughts on the new upcoming Jason Bourne flick.

The Bourne movies are indeed classics. They are fantastic action thrillers and suspenseful conspiracy dramas. Matt Damon was perfectly cast for his role as the rogue agent from the New York Times bestselling books. Doug Liman's Bourne Identity was far better than the lousy 1988 film. It followed the book really well, and with Chris Cooper and Clive Owen as the villains out to silence Bourne who has no idea who he is.

Bourne Identity was the origin story for this memorable action hero. It was a great set up for the second best trilogy of the decade. The suspense as whether or not he'll find out who he is, the girl who tags along with him will be killed or not, or if the people out to assasinate him will succeed or not is fantastically put together. Robert Ludlum would be pleased with the movie, but not entirely pleased. He would have been though if he was there to see the Greengrass films.

R.I.P Robert Ludlum (1957-2001)

Bourne Supremacy is the best out of the trilogy for me. While it has the shortest running time, its still very well paced. The final car chase sequence is arguably the best in movie history, and when Bourne pins Kiril it leaves you thrilled, excited, and changed. Supremacy continues the story of Bourne, showing that he migt not ever escape the predicament that hes caught in. It became very clear that Paul Greengrass was the perfect director for Bourne.

Ultimatum was the biggest book out of the three, and the biggest film out of the three. The Bourne Ultimatum is a wonderful film, and in my opinion its the best movie of 2007's summer. The action is a bit toned down so we know whats going on at least, but the sense, the look, and the feel aren't as good as Supremacy was for me. But Ultimatum capped off a wonderful trilogy with a bang and it closes extremley well. The Bourne Trilogy would be looked back as one of the most successful action pictures of all time.

This is another trilogy that is in danger of having a fourth movie ruin the magic that the first three films brought to the screen. (Yes Indiana Jones, I'm speaking to you) When I first heard about them coming out with a new Bourne my first thought was, 'Damon's gettin' too old, right?' Well, Matt's not in this movie. Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, Thor, Town, SWAT) is going to play the popular action hero for the Bourne Legacy. Supposedly that is. Really? Is the Bourne franchise going to develop into the next Bond? Grant it there are three more books, 'Legacy', 'Sanctum', and 'Betrayal', but they simply cannot do it without Damon. This could be a very well speculation since on IMDB there is no Cast listed. But I've heard from several sources that Renner is going to be Bourne. Shame.

I've read both Supremacy and Ultimatum. Greengrass's adaptations of those amazing books held very true to their source material. (Something a few movies out there need to do) Matt Damon WAS Jason Bourne. He portrayed his character very well and he cannot be replaced. Jeremy Renner is a fine actor. He really is. I enjoy watching him onscreen, but he will never be a Bourne. Never. The plus about this Bourne movie is that it will rack in a crap ton of cash, and Tony Gilroy (the writer of the first 3 films) is coming back. But if it doesn't make a lot of cash at the BO, the big reasons might be that audiences would be angry and confused that Damon isn't back (or maybe it'll be because it'll suck)

I will say I am not a supporter of this film at all. The only franchise that was successful in the means of changing its title character and had a positive response was Bond. Bourne will never do that. Sorry it won't. Renner should stick with the Avengers and not Bourne. He'll be better off fighting along side Evans, Dowey, Hemsworth, and (Unfortunately) Mark Ruffalo. I'm not really excited to see The Amazing Spider-man either, but I'm giving it a chance. I would be excited if it was ten years from now. I'm not giving Bourne Legacy a chance. I would if Greengrass was the director, though. But my support would still be on low. If they're doing this sequel and an Evil Dead sequel, they might as well reboot the Matrix.

but that's my opinion I guess.

I'm not a huge Comic Book Geek, but the super hero movie genre has always excited me, and always will. I do not enjoy when people argue over CBMs like they're a religion, but i guess thats how most movie geeks are.

oh and if i had to really pic a side,
i mean really really really had to, then
DC, baby :)

but i really don't care about which is best. they both make me happy
