Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder has been using Vero as a means to offer fans a bit of insight into some of the decisions he made while in the director’s chair for the controversial film. In a post today, Snyder shared some deeper thoughts regarding his version of Bruce Wayne (played by Ben Affleck) in the movie.
Snyder posted a photo of the scene where Bruce Wayne wakes up from a nightmare with a seemingly random woman in bed next to him. The hero then pops some pain killers which he downs with wine.
If that wasn't a clear enough indication that he’s a pretty broken figure, Snyder revealed that there’s some artwork above the bed to further the point. You’ll notice there’s a painting by Robert Mapplethorpe, which, according to Snyder, represents sex as a type of drug for the character.
Snyder wrote:
"Here's an easy one: The Mapplethorpe above his bed I chose to represent the erotic as a drug that Bruce uses sex to momentarily forget his pain.”
Snyder has certainly received his fair share of criticism for the
Batman v Superman, but the director seems to remain passionate about his work. Yesterday, he revealed
why Batman used a spear against Superman during their battle. Hopefully he continues to share the deeper meanings behind his directorial decisions for the movie.
