10. Ghostbusters
I know. Bit of a controversial pick, especially on this site, but I freaking loved this movie. Even more so than the original one. This movie was loads of fun and I'm glad it was well received by critics and audiences. The visuals were out of this realm! Boo yah...emphasis on the boo.
9. Moana
This movie was such a visual treat to the eye. The setting, characters and songs were all wonderfully done. I am glad that Disney chose to look at the Polyneasian culture since they rarely get shown in movies. The title character Moana is one of Disney's greatest characters.
How Far I'll Go is such a great and inspirational song. I wanna go to the ocean now!
8. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
I have been waiting for another movie in the Potterverse since
Deathly Hallows Part 2 and the wait has paid off.
Fantastic Beasts was such a fantastic return to the world of Harry Potter. I loved the setting of 1920s New York City. I absolutely loved all of the characters. The beasts themselves were so cute and fun. I look forward to the sequels.
7. Captain America: Civil War
What more can I say about this movie. I have praised it enough, but I will do it once more.
Civil War is how you do a comic book movie. Other rival studios and certain hack directors should take note. The Russo Brothers were able to perfectly handle all of these characters without a single flaw. Spider-Man is finally in the MCU. Tom Holland is perfect! The beautiful Chadwick Boseman was so badass as Black Pantha. I trust the Russos now with
Infinity War. I absolutely loved this movie.
Civil War is Marvel's magnum opus and the Godfather of the comic book movie genre.
6. 10 Cloverfield Lane
Pure suspense and tension. That is what
10 Cloverfield Lane exells at. This sequel is much better than the 2008 hit
Cloverfield. The performances in this movie were so phenomenol and well-done. The third act was a little iffy, but that wasn't enough to decrease my love for the movie. I don't wanna say much more because spoilers, but go watch it if you haven't already!
5. Arrival
An absolute masterpiece of epic proportions. Amy Adams delievers what might be her greatest performance ever. This movie is proof that science fiction is still thriving in today's era. Dat twist tho'. I don't wanna say too much because spoilers, but wow. Just wow. This movie made my jaw literally drop.
4. The Neon Demon
A visual splendor. Pure art. Yet so disturbing and disgusting in some scenes. I loved it, but it's not an easy film to watch. I only recommend it if you have a strong stomach and a high mature level. This movie shows that the world of modeling isn't exactly great. Elle Fanning delievers an exceptional performance here. So does Jena Malone. Such a shame that critics didn't treat this movie so kindly. A future cult classic in the making? Never know...
3. Rogue One
Wow oh wow. This movie had so many great moments. The third act is one of the best third acts in recent blockbuster history. Best Star Wars prequel ever and it ties so perfectly to
A New Hope. Everything makes so much sense now. There was so much tension! The cgi was so perfect. Disney proving once again that they are the best thing to happen to Star Wars like ever. I rebel.
2. Zootopia
Judy Hopps! She was so awesome.
Zootopia was just so amazing and really sends out a strong and emotionally powerful message in today's world. The animation was beautiful, the characters were great, the setting was amazing. What more can you ask for? Not only is
Zootopia one of the best Disney films ever made, it is one of the best films ever made too. I look forward to the eventual sequel. Dat sloth scene tho' <3
1. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Zack Snyder is the modern day Stanley Kubrick.
Batman v Superman is pure art. 10/10
Can't hold a straight face even while typing that.
1. La La Land
Just........wow. This movie gave me so many feels. Feels that very few films ever give me. This movie is an emotional journey that is a perfectly-directed, visual masterpiece that is already a classic and will live on and be remembered for generations to come. Like I am still in awe even just days after watching the film yet again. I literally cried a lot, especially during the extremely powerful epilogue. And the songs! Another Day of Sun, Someone in the Crowd, City of Stars is still stuck in my head. The beautiful Ryan Gosling and the extremely talented Emma Stone have such great chemistry together. The use of color spoke to my very inner soul. The movie looked like a painting at times. There is so much win when it comes to
La La Land. This film encourages and inspires me to go and live my dreams. And that right there is absolutely powerful. I love musicals and this is one of the greatest musicals and films ever made. I so want this movie to win all the awards. Go watch it! Even if you don't like muscials, still go watch it! Don't forget to bring tissues! :'(
