BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Spoilers: Here's How The Sequel Sets The Stage For Disney+'s IRONHEART

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever serves as Riri Williams' Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, but how does the sequel set the stage for the Ironheart TV series coming to Disney+? You can find out right here!

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a powerful sequel that explores the fallout from T'Challa's MCU death in a meaningful and emotional way. Setting the stage for Shuri to inherit the mantle, the movie gives this franchise a fresh start and, as is so often the case with Marvel Studios, lays the groundwork for a lot of future stories.

Among them is Disney+'s Ironheart, a series that premieres on the streaming service next year. Dominique Thorne makes her debut as Riri Williams in the Black Panther sequel and first comes into the story after the C.I.A. uses a device she created to find Vibranium in the ocean.

We later learn that she came up with that in just a couple of weeks to prove one of her professors wrong, though how it fell into the wrong hands is left somewhat ambiguous. Unfortunately, the device just so happens to find Namor's home, Talokan, forcing him to return to the surface world and kill Riri to keep Talokan a secret.

Namor blames Wakanda for making their Vibranium known to the world, and demands they bring the teenager to him. Shuri and Okoye track Riri down at M.I.T and discover that she's been making her own Iron Man suit. After escaping the CIA (at the cost of a car that belonged to her father), Shuri and Riri are taken to Talokan, later escaping thanks to a timely intervention by Nakia.

Back in Wakanda, Queen Ramonda saves Riri's life when Namor attacks, albeit at the cost of her own. This inspires Riri to help Shuri defeat K'uk'ulkan, and she creates a new suit that ultimately plays a key role in defeating the Talokans.

At the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri tells Riri she can't let her leave Wakanda with that suit (presumably because it's made of Vibranium). The teenager understands, but is overjoyed when the new Black Panther reveals that she managed to retrieve the pieces of that car and rebuild it. The two have clearly struck up a friendship, and Riri returns to Boston.

That's where we leave her, and it's clear to see how this movie has laid the groundwork for her solo outing. Heading to Wakanda and seeing the sacrifice made by Queen Ramonda has inspired her to be a hero, while her exposure to the nation's mythology no doubt means she'll be well-prepared to battle a mystical baddie like The Hood. Interestingly, she's never referred to as "Ironheart," so we're assuming that mantle is one she'll get in her upcoming TV series.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now playing in theaters.

I wasnt quite sure how well Ironheart and Riri Williams would work, but I came away from the film really enjoying her moments and looking forward to seeing her again. I think they developed a good foundation for her show. And I can see Shuri making a cameo as well.

Think the professor was secretly CIA

Little reverse psychology to get Riri to build the machine

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Or a Skrull. Leading into Secret Invasion with the Skrulls looking to mine Vibranium for weapons. Not only that but it would he a great twist of the Skrulls we're secretly the world leaders who voted for the Sokovia Accords to control heroes. And then we dive deeper into members of Hydra were infiltrated by Skrulls and they pushed for Project Insight.

She was great in that movie

Great first showing for her that left a lot of room for the future. She was involved in a lot of the funniest stuff in the movie in ways I did NOT see coming ("So y'all stop having Black Panthers when I get kidnapped?"), but definitely showed dramatic range later in the movie as well. I never really felt the gravity of her in the suit because those scenes were so fast paced but it was overall implemented smoothly.

I did find myself wishing they explained more of her backstory, why she has such an affinity for Stark (or if she was just trying to take on the challenge) or if there was any connection between her and the Wakandan outreach program, but this movie already had so much to do that I understand them leaving a lot to her show

@OmegaDaGrodd - At one point when Ross and de Fontaine are debriefing the other feds Ross mentions that she was part of the program. Odd that it never comes up anywhere else though.

@OmegaBlack13 - She probably doesn't know she's part of the program, not yet I'd imagine.

@OmegaBlack13 - I thought he said they were recruiting her for the outreach programme as a cover when De Fontaine was trying to say they kidnapped her. She says something like, "they kidnapped an American child" and he responds with "she's 19 and a genius. They were just recruiting her" or something along those lines

@BigPhilbowski - Oh yeah, that makes a lot of sense

I think the professor will be an important part if her show. Why else would her machine end up in the governments hands? I feel like the professor was using RiRi's hubris to trick her into making the machine.

So I hear she is apparently better than Tony Stark.

So is she a MaRiRi Sue?

@TyrantBossMedia - There’s a throwaway line where it’s said she built her first machine at three years old. If you remember Iron Man 1, Tony didn’t build his first circuit board until he was four. Just seems like an oddly specific year for them to have her best him at “earliest age to build a thing” and completely silly given Tony grew up as the son of a genius billionaire inventor…while Riri gets her parts from Target.

Honestly, I was hoping Wakanda Forever would get me more excited about her show, but she still has yet to rise above an Iron Man knock off for me.

She wasn’t bad in Wakanda Forever but she was easily the least interesting character. She served as more of a plot point to move the story forward than anything else.

@MrDandy - did they explain her connection to Tony stark?

Ironheart has just been seen by millions and will be seen by millions more. Her profile and her show just got a big bump.

@TheUnworthyThor -
Showing us her character may equate to exposure, but Loki was an incredibly popular character prior and his show still failed to perform in anywhere near the viewership they were hoping for and that's via their official figures.

@Scarilian - Yeah, that’s just not true. It was very successful. No need to make stuff up.
