There's been a lot of rumor and speculation relating to which of the characters that returned to Disney/Marvel after the Fox acquisition would be the first to make their MCU debut, and now we might just have our answer.
According to
Charles Murphy, who had a pretty good track record with Marvel scoops when he wrote for MCU Exchange, the plan is for
Black Panther 2 to introduce Doctor Doom as the main villain. Murphy cautions that this is not a "hot scoop" just yet, but it is something he has heard from a reliable source.
Apparently,
"Victor Von Doom will began expanding his empire, conquering parts of Africa and, ultimately, come into conflict with the nation of Wakanda and the Black Panther."
How likely is this? Well, we know director Ryan Coogler has only recently begun to outline the script for the sequel, but that doesn't necessarily mean he hasn't already locked down the main story, so there's always a chance details have leaked out. Plus, Doom and T'Challa have faced off several times in the comics (most notably in 2010's
Doomwar), so there is some precedent for a clash on the big-screen.
Even if this is an idea that's currently being discussed, it's very early days so things could always change before the screenplay is complete. Still, there's no denying that
Black Panther 2 be a great way to bring this iconic character into the MCU!
