The BLACK PANTHER Movie Wasn't The Only Thing Related To The Hero Making History This Weekend

Black Panther has been setting records at the box office all weekend but T'Challa has also been making history on the music charts. The Kendrick Lamar produced soundtrack has entered the Billboard 200 at #1 despite the fact that the sales tracking ended the day before the movie hit theaters. Now that it's actually been released, you'd best believe it will hold on to the top spot for some time to come.

Black Panther: The Album also posted 138.9 million on-demand audio streams for its songs in the week ending February 15th, and that's the biggest streaming week of all-time for a soundtrack of any sort.

It's also the first hip-hop soundtrack to hit #1 since Furious 7 in 2015 and it should be the first album of this type to log more than two weeks at #1 since Bad Boys II in 2003! The soundtrack features an array of stars including Lamar, the Weeknd, Future, SZA, Schoolboy Q, 2 Chainz, Khalid, and Travis Scott. Surprisingly, only three of the fourteen tracks on the album are actually used in Black Panther.

Black Panther: The Album moved 154,000 equivalent units and it's now clear that Marvel's latest movie is a hit in every respect. What did you think of the soundtrack? Let us know your thoughts down below.

To be honest, I only liked 2 songs from the soundtrack, and thats the ones with SZA and The Weekend.

But that music score by Ludwig Goransson was the business.

@SageMode - We agree on this. There were two good songs on the album. I personally felt the album did not work with an advanced, wealthy kingdom.

I get that Lamar is all about rapping about oppression, injustice and inequality, but Wakanda should be far evolved beyond those overall themes. Perhaps he should have put more thought into the crafting of the songs and had a few associated with Kilmonger and his beliefs, but the rest of the songs should have been far more elevated.

I would have preferred an All-Star hip hop album. Producers like Dre, Diddy, Will I Am. and Pharrell would have added a better dimension to the album and struck the more appropriate tone. Speaking of someone who considers himself a king anyway...they should have included at least a track from Kanye. I was expecting cool, different tracks from Run the Jewels and Apashe. I would have loved to have heard Busta Rhymes. His rap flow is fantastic. I harken back to "Put You Hands Where My Eyes Can See." Imagine an upgrade and somewhat advanced take on that number. And while his songs are rarely if ever clean (I think "Speedom" is his cleanest track) Tech N9ne would have provided some powerful tracks that could have strongly represented the warriors from the country.

I think that album was a missed opportunity. Lamar just doesn't cut it. But that's just my opinion.
