BLACK WIDOW Is Reportedly Being Developed As Marvel Studios' First R-Rated Release

Could Black Widow be the first R-rated Marvel Studios film? As far-fetched as it sounds, that's the rumor that's been picking up steam online over the weekend.

Crazy Days and Nights is a somewhat notorious Hollywood gossip site, but it has been known to share some solid movie scoops in the past, and its latest "Blind Item" reveal suggests that Marvel is indeed setting up Natasha Romanov's first solo outing as a more adult oriented feature.

Kevin Feige has shot down the notion of an R-rated MCU adventure in the past, but if this was something the studio wanted to explore after the success of Deadpool, for example, Black Widow would certainly be a fitting character to test the waters with - especially since her solo movie is expected to be an origin tale which could potentially go to some pretty dark places.

This is most definitely just a rumor for now, but let us know what you think about the prospect of an R-rated Black Widow movie in the comments.

Black Widow doesn't have an offcial release date, but it is expected to commence production this year. Cate Shortland directs, with Scarlett Johansson confirmed to return as the lethal Avenger.

Hmm very interesting, I can’t help but wonder how little kids who are fans of the character will take this though?

@Jayman627 - they’re probably assuming to not have a tremendous ROI so why not go all in and do R anyway since you’ll won’t get as much regardless

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Frankly, BW is one of the least CGI characters in the MCU and therefore lends itself to a low budget, high profit setup like Deadpool. I have promoted it as hard action/thriller since the beginning. It needs to be the equivalent of Bourne or John Wick IMO. Made on a sub $100 million budget it could provide huge returns and provide a model as to what the ex-Netflix shows could also do on the big screen.

@Jayman627 - They will enjoy it as much as Deadpool 1 & 2 lol. Teens and adults cant make a film pass 740 mil alone. I saw a bunch of kids in my theater for DP 1 & 2 & Logan.

I wonder if we will get to see BW nude or a Hulk sex scene.

Probably not a good idea to alienate all the little girls hoping to see this in the theatre.

@MrCheerio - They're probably figuring that if they have Captain Marvel, plus Sersi leading the Eternals movie, they've got that market covered.

JonC - 1/28/2019, 2:07 PM
@MrCheerio - little girls will be following Spiderman and Captain Marvel much more so than BW. Most people are not promoting BW to their children as a role model seeing how she was brainwashed, does unspeakable things for govt (at least in the past) and had her ability to have children removed from her by her brainwashers. Not exactly Disney promo material.

@MrCheerio - well those little girls were already alienated by not getting a black widow figure.

@rabid - I didn't realize this rumor was from CDaN.

Enty knows his shit, man. And is right way more often than he is wrong. So I wouldn't put it past them that Marvel Studios is AT LEAST considering the film to be R-rated.

CDaN is more reliable than you think, and I can attest to that as I have found out many things YEARS before they were revealed to the public.

Can't even repeat some of the stuff on Crazy Days and Nights that's said about celebrities like Dan Schneider, Brian Singer, Steven Spielberg, etc. without risking a slander lawsuit, buttttt

if this is true color me interested for the first time in this project.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - They;re horrible people, but they have been right about movies in the past, quite a bit actually. Personally, I don't believe this, but it's been picked up on by most websites so.. here we are.

@RorMachine - 100%. I'm just more curious about the tabloidy celebrity sex abuse conspiracy stuff they're known for. They also tend to love Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. for staying wholesome among all the Hollywood creeps, so at least there's that

L0RDbuckethead - 1/28/2019, 12:55 PM
@RorMachine - I appreciate this post because IMO, Enty and CDaN are right way more often then they are wrong.

They hardly ever have reports about Comic Book films, but when they do, he is usually correct. I bet there's some truth to that rumor. Marvel Studios is AT LEAST considering it.

@Comicbookart

Don’t see it being as violent as a Skyfall or Casino Royale.

Will probably focus more on chase scenes/set pieces a la Mission Impossible.
