While speaking at a recent press junket for
Hellboy, David Harbour revealed that filming on the highly anticipated
Black Widow standalone movie is expected to begin in June. Marvel has been tight-lipped regarding their post-
Avengers: Endgame plans, but the long-awaited
Black Widow solo movie is expected to be among the next in line.
While he couldn't get into specifics, Harbour praised the cast of the movie, which includes the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh, with
reports that Rachel Weisz is also in talks to star.
“I think it's slated to start in June,” he reveals. “I don't think they have it fully-boarded yet, but it's a great character. I'm really excited about it. The cast is fleshing out (with) Scarlett and Florence Pugh, I think they said. I know they were talking about Rachel Weisz. There's some really great actresses.”
Harbour (
Stranger Things,
Hellboy) was
added to the cast of
Black Widow last week. When pressed for any sort of details, the actor pretty much stuck to the usual PR script, praising director Cate Shortland as well as the premise for the movie. Echoing
what he told Entertainment Tonight at CinemaCon, Harbour said:
“I can't really say anything about the story. It's very interesting. It's very surprising. When they pitched it to me, I was very surprised, but I will say, the thing that really takes it over the edge for me is this director, Cate Shortland, who made this movie Lore. It came out back in 2012, or something. She is a phenomenally sophisticated film maker, really brilliant, really passionate and just a beautiful human being.
“When I sat down and talked with her about this thing, we talked for hours about all kinds of stuff and she's just a deep human being. I'm really excited to work with all of these women and I think it could be a really, really good movie.”
Harbour's exact role in
Black Widow remains a mystery, though there is speculation that he'll be playing an "older male contemporary" of Natasha Romanov. For what it's worth, he told Den of Geek that he does know the character he'll be playing, but can't reveal it yet.
Black Widow does not yet have an official release date, but more news regarding the film should be with us fairly soon, especially if filming does begin in June.
