Kevin Feige Confirms That FULL Phase 4 Slate Was Revealed At Comic-Con; BLADE Will Be A Phase 5 Movie

Phase 4 will be a little shorter than previous Phases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has clarified what was revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday...

On Saturday night, Marvel Studios revealed the release dates for five movies and five Disney+ TV shows which will be heading our way in 2020 and 2021. This seemed a little short for their entire Phase 4 slate, though, especially when Phase 1 was spread across 2008 - 2012, Phase 2 was 2013 - 2015, and Phase 3 was 2016 - 2019.

That said, with a total of ten projects, Phase 4 is the second longest MCU Phase to date!

Now, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed that, yes, those two years of movies and TV shows are indeed Phase 4. "It is the complete Phase Four," he said. "The way I announced the complete Phase Three five years ago—things can move, things can change as they did if you go back and look at what we talked about five years ago for Phase Three, but we’ve been working on this for quite a while and it’s pretty set. But there are always changes possible."

That means that the sequels Feige mentioned in Hall H (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Black Panther 2, and Captain Marvel 2) are all being held off for Phase 5, as is Blade despite the logo being revealed alongside the likes of The Eternals and Hawkeye.

Needless to say, this is a very unique looking slate of movies and it will be very interesting to see how they set the stage for what comes next, especially as we know that Fantastic Four and the X-Men are also in development.

Meet your new Captain America! Anthony Mackie is wielding the shield that Steve Rogers gave Sam Wilson at the end of Avengers: Endgame and recently confirmed that he'll be donning a new suit.

Who would have guessed that we'd ever see Angelina Jolie on stage at Comic-Con to promote a Marvel Studios movie? This truly proves that they can get anyone to join the MCU these days!

Simi Liu was cast as Shang-Chi this past Tuesday and it's fair to say that this will be the actor's biggest role to date. He'll need to spend a lot of time training to do the hero justice, though!

The Vision and Scarlet Witch together again! We still have no idea how the android returns from the dead in WandaVision but we can assume it has something to do with Wanda's powers.

We thought Tom Hiddleston was done playing Loki after the last two Avengers movies but we now know that Loki will revolve around the 2012 version of him after he escaped with the Tesseract.

The crowd at Comic-Con sang Benedict Cumberbatch "Happy Birthday!" as he came out to announce the next instalment of the Doctor Strange franchise alongside co-star Elizabeth Olsen.

Richard Madden is one of Hollywood's hottest commodities after The Bodyguard and Rocketman so having him lead the cast of The Eternals as Ikaris is obviously a huge win for Marvel Studios.

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi presents the returning Natalie Portman with Thor's hammer Mjolnir as she will be playing the female God of Thunder in that fourth instalment.

Jeffrey Wright is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Watcher...in an animated form! The show will stream on Disney+ and is set to visit a number of alternate timelines and realities.

Jeremy Renner will return as Hawkeye in a series that promises to delve both into his time as Ronin during that five-year time jump and him training his replacement, comic book character Kate Bishop.

So much for Millie Bobby Brown playing Sprite, eh? This is Lia McHugh and she appears to be quite a bit younger than the Stranger Things star so maybe Marvel Studios chose a different direction!

The last time we saw Thor, he was heading into outer space with the "Asgardians of the Galaxy" but something must have brought him back to Earth...could that be the fact there's a new Thor?

Black Widow may have been killed off in Avengers: Endgame but Scarlett Johansson is back for an adventure which will take place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War

David Harbour is playing Red Guardian and the reason he's wearing a Captain America t-shirt is apparently because his character has some "complicated" feelings for Steve Rogers. Do they know each other?

Florence Pugh's star is on the rise and she'll be playing Yelena Belova in Black Widow. That's a character with a lot of history in the comics but it sounds like she'll be an ally to Natasha in the MCU.

Rachel Weisz is another surprising addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we don't currently know who she'll be playing in Black Widow. However, she's probably a villainous Russian of some sort!

In one of the biggest surprises of the night, it was revealed that Teyonah Parris is going to play an adult version of Monica Rambeau in WandaVision. We first met the character in Captain Marvel.

Meet the new Blade! Mahershala Ali stole the show in the first season of Luke Cage as Cottonmouth and he was cast by Marvel Studios after calling Kevin Feige to discuss playing the character.

What a way to end the panel! The Oscar-winning actor came out on stage after Marvel Studios handed out Black Widow caps and then put on one of his own featuring the new Blade logo.

Tessa Thompson says that Valkyrie is looking for a "Queen" in Thor: Love and Thunder and it's going to be very interesting seeing who that winds up being. Is Jane Foster a remote possibility?

My problem with Blade being a main MCU film, instead of on TV, is that Blade is one of those characters that requires an R-rating (like the Punisher).

Are they willing to do that with one of their major movies? Will it be under the Fox label? I doubt it.

I like the actor they got, though. I wonder if he'll be British, like in the comics.

I don't think phases actually mean much beyond the basic organizing structure at the planning stage. Phase 1 was the Avengers. Proving there was value in doing this stuff as a cinematic universe. Sure, that all needed to be a conceptual unit.

But there's really nothing about Phases 2 and 3 that make them all that distinct from each other. Maybe Phase 2 can be seen as a "holy shit" scramble when they realized they've got to keep the machine turning and plan for something bigger, and Phase 3 is when they actually had a plan for Thanos and moved toward it.

If it helps Marvel Studios keep it all structured and gives us all some shorthand to keep the MCU from feeling too scattered, then fine. But let's not get too fixated.

I expect a Spidey movie to be in the mix in this phase as well even though they havent announced it yet. They didnt announce anything for July 2021 and I imagine that will be the slot for that.

Funny that it took over a decade since the last film for Blade to be rebooted, the film that kicked off the superhero movie boom, but Spiderman got 3 reboots and the X Men got so many reboot/sequels/requels

@dracula - I think it was a combination of Blade and X-Men that kicked off the superhero movie craze.

Remember, Blade was so obscure back in the 90's that almost no one even knew it was a Marvel movie except comic fans. I didn't know a single person that knew it was a Marvel character when I told them.

And they did nothing to advertise it as a comic movie. When Blade was in theatres and its first run on VHS the movie itself didn't even say "Based on the Marvel Comics character" in the opening credits. You had to wait until the end of the end credits to see that. And since End Credit Scenes weren't a thing back then, no one saw that.

But it is very possible that everyone at Fox and Marvel knew it was a Marvel movie and when they saw the success of it decided to move forward with X-Men. Because if an extremely obscure comic character can do so well, what could their most popular product at the time do?

When X-Men came out everyone knew they were Marvel characters. So that's what really got the general audience thirsty for comic movies.

Pretty much confirms that 2023 is BP2, Guardians 3* and Captain Marvel 2 with Blade either kicking off 2023 or moving one of the 2022 movies back a year.

Feige is truly a madman

* It cannot be overstated how much the Gunn firing messed up the rhythm of what they had worked out at least initially. If GOTG3 was next year we're definitely looking at a different outlook on the size and scale of Phase 4 as well as potentially another slot for an Ant Man/Wasp film in 2023
