Anthony Mackie Says CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Is "Relevant" To Modern Politics
The latest from the fairly opinionated Anthony Mackie has the Sam Wilson aka Falcon actor talk more about appearing in Captain America: Civil War, how the Marvel threequel relates to today's politics, and also how his character is being depicted in the comic books! Check it out
When Anthony Mackie's not jokingly endorsing a Republican, or jokingly poking fun at someone for liking Man of Steel, the actor is talking up his role as Sam Wilson/ Falcon in the next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America: Civil War. When asked if the 2016 threequel is relevant to political events of today, much like The Winter Soldier, Mackie said it's "very much so."
"I feel like Captain America is all about the ups and downs of the society that we live in today," he said. "It's really genius how Marvel can take fictional characters -- superheroes at that -- and then take the politics of today and wrap them all together and make you believe and buy into it."
Comic Book Resources then asked about the irony that Mackie's Donald Trump joke backlash occurred around the same time that Falcon got in trouble for not being conservative in the comic.
"I think it's very funny," he said. "I think every time I read the new Marvel comic book and everything that's going on with my character, it's informative. And I feel like the court of public opinion is never at a lack for judgment." Finally, Mackie was asked what's great about taking the Falcon to the next level from the comics to the big-screen, "I think the amazing thing about the character of Sam Wilson is seeing kids find themselves in that character," he replied. "When I meet a kid, or an adult, and they say, 'Oh, my God -- I was going through this, or I was dealing with that, and when I read the comic book or I saw you in the movie, it made everything make more sense,' or, 'I feel like I can do that, now.' It's kind of icing on the cake." What do you think?
