Captain America: Civil War passed another milestone on its first Monday in theatres, earning $13.4 million and (very slightly) surpassing the $13.2m made by Avengers: Age of Ultron on its first Monday. According to a new report from Deadline, Civil War's Monday box office also topped Marvel's Iron Man 3 ($11.3m), Superman Returns ($12.9m) and Man of Steel ($12.6m). Through four days of domestic release, Civil War has earned $192.5 million, which still places it 6% behind Ultron.
During its theatrical run so far, Captain America: Civil War has scored the fifth-biggest box office opening of all time in North America, behind record-holders Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million), Jurassic World ($208.8 million), and Marvel team-up films The Avengers ($207.4 million) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million). Captain America: Civil War also knocked off Iron Man 3 for fifth place in the all-time records, which brought in $174.1 million. The $166 million opening of Warner Bros.' Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in March is now ranked in eighth place for the biggest domestic openings in Hollywood history. Deadline currently assesses Civil War to be the highest grossing live action film of the summer of 2016.
