Captain America: Civil War may seem like a relatively small-scale movie compared to the likes of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but back in 2016, it was a very big deal.
Similar to what happened when the comic book it shares a name with launched a decade earlier, fans passionately picked a side with some declaring for #TeamCap and others firmly supporting #TeamIronMan. Ultimately, this clash had game-changing consequences for the wider MCU.
Whether it was the introduction of Black Panther and Spider-Man or the rift that split The Avengers down the middle, Civil War's impact was felt massively in the years which followed. So, what if Marvel Studios made a sequel?
No, we're sadly not referring to an upcoming episode of What If...?, but instead, a very cool fan-made poster which spotlights some potential key players in a future "Civil War II" conflict. The comic book sequel was a tad underwhelming and it's hard to say whether a big screen follow-up could reach the same highs as its predecessor.
In 2022, Captain America: Civil War producer Nate Moore credited Kevin Feige with suggesting they adapt Civil War in the Avengers-level threequel.
"We knew we had to resolve, obviously, the Winter Soldier storyline. We wanted Cap and Bucky to ultimately reunite. And we knew we wanted to use Zemo. What a great character. You know, he's obviously a classic Cap villain. We were building the movie around a MacGuffin around the Madbomb, which, the Madbomb goes off and causes normal people to start fighting each other. It's honestly a little similar to what I think they did in Kingsman."
"[Feige] was like, 'That's not a big enough idea, guys.' And we're like, 'Let us write a draft, we'll prove it to you.' [Feige:] 'Okay, prove it to me.' As we're getting done with it... he pulls me into his office and he said, 'You know, I think we should try to do Civil War. And I was like, 'Kevin, we don't have half the stuff that's in Civil War. We don't have the New Warriors, we don't have... Here's all the reasons why we can't do it.' And he's like, 'Go home, read it, let's talk about it.'"
Interestingly, it's recently been claimed that Spider-Man 4 will be Marvel Studios' street-level Civil War. Read more about that here. Which heroes would you like to see pitted against each other in a possible Civil War II?
