SPIDER-MAN 4 Rumored To Be The MCU's Street-Level Version Of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Spider-Man 4 remains shrouded in secrecy, but a new rumour claims the long-awaited Spider-Man: No Way Home follow-up will have big stakes for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's street-level superheroes...

Spider-Man 4 is one of Marvel Studios' most highly anticipated movies...even though it doesn't have a confirmed writer, director, or lead star.

Tom Holland has insisted that he won't sign up for the movie before reading a finished script and we have no idea whether Jon Watts plans to step behind the camera again after walking away from Fantastic Four (creative differences weren't an issue there; the filmmaker simply needed a break after a gruelling Spider-Man: No Way Home shoot during the pandemic).

Drew Goddard is said to be a contender to replace Watts if it comes down to it, while vague plot details for Spider-Man 4 have been doing the round for several months now.

Previously, we've heard the movie will pick up shortly after the events of Daredevil: Born Again, with a triumphant Mayor Fisk outlawing street-level vigilantes. That will bring Spider-Man and Daredevil together, presumably to take down Wilson Fisk once and for all. Oh, and an Avenger might get involved too.

@Cryptic4Qual, one of X's "scoopers" who has developed a reliable track record this year, claims to have heard some details about Spider-Man 4 and says "it was described to me to be a Street Level Civil War."

Captain America: Civil War saw Earth's Mightiest Heroes split straight down the middle over the Sokovia Accords, so this comparison is an interesting one. Could it be that some vigilantes will side with Fisk? Heck, we may even see the Mayor assemble his own team of Thunderbolts or Dark Avengers to deal with Spidey and the Man Without Fear.

With Daredevil: Born Again undergoing a creative overhaul, Spider-Man 4 is unlikely to come our way until after that series hits Disney+. We're also not sure how an adventure like this will set the stage for Peter Parker to be front and centre in a Multiversal epic like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

"I want to do things that scare me, things that make me uncomfortable," Holland recently said of his future acting plans. "When you do what we do, you have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. This show is a perfect example of that. The reason I wasn’t committing is because I was afraid. I’ve never done anything like this before."

"I got so used to the Marvel machine and the safety blanket of Spider-Man, feeling like I was protected. So, doing something like this was incredibly scary, but because it was so scary, it was so fulfilling and so rewarding," the actor continued. "Going forward, if there’s something that I feel like I can’t do, I want to do that one. Playing a sort of stupid English doofus is not what I want to do because that’s my life, right?"

What are your hopes for Spider-Man 4 when it's eventually released?

Love to see The Defenders done right in a big budget film like this. But on the other hand, don’t over crowd it unnecessarily.

The MCU Spider-Man is a mess. It was probably the first sign that Kevin Feige is just a moron who was in the right place, at the right time.

@PartyKiller - there’s many things the MCU has wrong right now but Spider-Man is literally one of the few exceptions

@PartyKiller - I’m so glad I’m not the only one that thinks this! Rubbish when you compare them to Raimi’s work when you consider the castings and the storylines laid down as the movies progressed.

@Spike101 @partykiller - I'd agree with you both until no way home made everything before MAKE SENSE. Positioning the 1st two movies as his MCU origin story only for the third to finally bring him to the spiderman we are more familiar with, was eerily genius

@Vigor - it's crazy but I've warmed up to it myself. They kind of adapted Brand New Day in a few ways that worked better for it. Eerily genius
Also going back to them, I actually really liked Homecoming and Far From Home for what they were. I'm also glad to have a new direction now and pivot. Hopefully they sort out this Vulture in another universe stuff because recurring rogues was something I ended up wanting from him, Shocker and Mysterio

@TheLobster - No Uncle Ben. No real reason to become a vigilante. Had the Stark magic suit. Everything good in No Way Home was borrowed from other Spider-Man movies.

@PartyKiller - even if it's a right place right time situation, I don't think a moron could turn it into the most popular, multibillion franchise

@Vigor - I liked NWH too although that was only good due to the legacy castings that it used. My major issue with the MCU Spider-Man is not actually with Spider-Man himself but with what they have done to the supporting cast of characters. Reimagining those truly brilliant characters like MJ, Ned Leeds, Aunt May and Flash was a terrible idea, these are what makes Spider-Man so relatable to me at least. Raimi did so well here and for the most part his cast were very believable as characters they portrayed.

@PartyKiller - lol STFU… amazing to me how people are now retroactively taking credit away from him. The issue the last few years is clearly that he was stretched too thin with all the content being mandated, and he’s at fault for delegating overseeing/quality control responsibilities to the wrong people. He hasn’t just all of a sudden forgotten how produce a good blockbuster.

@TheLobster - the Raimi films are fun as nostalgic movies but overrated because of that, and if they came out in this day and age you would all shit all over it and you know it.

@TheVisionary25 - If it is JUST DD and Spiderman joining forces during the film esp with neithere knowing their RL identity for the first couple acts at least think it would be cool still. Just dont want it to go full team movie and hoping the civil war comment is only the ban on vigilantes being Sokovia Accords like in nature as a central part and NOT the team v team aspect...

...if an Avenger is involved could be that is who the two face off against for the first two acts prior to them joining forces to take down Kinpin in the final act. I just don't know who they would count as an Avenger cos small team wise (ie outside of Endgame) aint many of those around anymore.

Hmmm, interesting.

We have yet to see the MCU's Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Cloak and Dagger and more. Wonder if they would use this film as a way to introduce them? Hell, seeing Punisher pop up would be cool too but I just wouldn't want it to be too stuffed. The street level protagonist conversations and action in the Civil War comic were some of the best parts.

I just really, really, really want to know who the next Spidey villain is going to be. We need to introduce Scorpion and more asap.

I've always wanted something like this on the big screen. Might have some elements of Shadowland, Devil's Reign and Gang War, which is the current street level crossover.

LOL!

BUT it's the most anticipated.
If you say so.

Honestly ready for more street level focused Marvel projects. I'd love a Marvel Knights or Defenders film down the line.

@ModHaterSLADE - hopefully Echo & DD:Born Again turn out well so we get more projects like that…

Street level has been my favorite part of Marvel Comics but it’s been lacking in the MCU.
ModHaterSLADE
ModHaterSLADE - 12/17/2023, 4:35 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Yeah, the focus for these phases has always been bigger, more over the top events while minimizing the grittier/ street level characters unfortunately.

@ModHaterSLADE - yeah , not everything needs to be a big high stakes event.

Sigh…

I just want a simple street level Spider Man story please so I hope this isn’t true (though I can see it being the case.

I’ll gladly have it even be DD & Spidey just teaming up to take on Kingpin.

Let Spidey be on his own before this civil war. Lead into it but sprinkle a tease at the end.

@GhostDog - that would be fine.

GhostDog - 12/17/2023, 4:47 PM
@TheVisionary25 - I don’t mind the team up with DD even in Spidey 4 but an all out civil war I would do more build up to.

Born Again can lay some bread crumbs too
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 12/17/2023, 4:50 PM
@GhostDog - agreed

I feel we still don’t have enough street level heroes to even do this with.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 12/17/2023, 5:25 PM
@GhostDog - For now I am going to assume the civil war comment is only due to the ban on vigilantes being Sokovia Accords like in nature. Cannot see how, with both DD and Spiderman currently unaffiliated and incognito, this could be a team v team thing.

I also have big questions about 'an avenger' being involved, what does that even mean when almost all of the actual avenger teams (outside of Endgame) are off the table. Wanda dead/MIA/villain, Vision MIA, Stark Dead, Rogers old/dead, Black Widow Dead, Hawkeye retired, Thor offworld...

...just can't think how and who would join forces with DD and Spider, maybe someone potentialy going to be an Avenger (or associated with the prior Avengers) could side with the mayor regarding a vigilante ban I guess but that STILL wouldn't be anything like Civil war EXCEPT in terms of a law in place regarding masked heroes.

As Such, think Fisk will be going after DD and Spidey, those two end up joining forces and maybe someone Kingpin sent after them switches over and joins them (who will be on an Avengers team) to take out the villains working for the Mayor of NY and/or the Mayor himself.

Only others that are known characters within the MCU as things stand would be Kate Bishop (who was being recruited as a young Avenger) and Echo to my mind. If the new Hawkeye is involved, Peter is young enough to be on a young Avengers team as Kate is older than him and Kamala probably only a year or two younger.

This still has a planned summer 2025 release date according to imdb.

Sony is really good with fast-tracking it's Spidey movies.
If this goes into production in early 2024, a summer, autum or winter release in 2025 sounds realistic.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 12/18/2023, 2:32 AM
@MarvelZombie616 - I don't really trust IMDb for stuff like that. A quick look at the current MCU slate leads me to believe a summer 2026 release is way more likely.
