But I wanted a Bucky and Cap movie for the third installment....

Anyways, can't wait to hear what you say. *pushes play*

The more I think about it, the more I have a hard time believing that any MS movie will top the absolute masterpiece that was The Winter Solider.

Because Iron Man is a liberal and Captain America is a conservative

lol

But yes as they said most heroes are known, I think it's just the point of "registration" that it'll focus on.

In some incarnations in the comics, Steve Rogers has been shown as a New Deal Democrat, and Stark as a pro-business capitalist. Not too sure how the movies will play it yet.

Downey needs to play a complete a-hole in this film. I trust the Russo Brothers and the Writers involved in this film as well. Less "comical/playboy Stark" and more "political/business Stark". Hoping for the best.

Didn't like the idea of civil war for the movies but I'm slowly warming up to it. Having spider-man would help a great deal. Whose side are you on?

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't think Winter Soldier was hot shit.

- The direction of the plot is obvious.
- The Nick Fury fake death is such an overused trope, especially for Marvel, and it was just boring watching it play out.
- Robert Redford's character is uninteresting as can be. And Hydra's plan makes no sense at all. BTW, what happened to Pierce's daughter who Iron Man was supposed to visit? [frick] orphaned children I guess.
- Third act is way too much of an explosion fest/video game act. I like it, but I thought the Bucky resolution should've happened much sooner.

Other than that, it's good. I like Falcon and what they did with Black Widow. A lot of the action is really good. Winter Soldier is a badass for most of the film.

All in 7.5-8 but a masterpiece? Not even close. That will be when Marvel can write a script doesn't feature a quip every second sentence.

In the MCU, less than 10 super powered heros exist. Unless they find the remaining 30+, the movie will be another pissing contest between Cap and Iron Man like we saw in Avengers. Show us something different and original.

The market is about to be completely flooded with CBMs. 5 years from now audiences might be burnt out. Might as well do Civil War while you can.

I'd have wished for Cap 3 to bring the whole Bucky/Hydra thing to an end, maybe with a return of the Red Skull and all. Appearances from other Avengers/MCU players would be totally cool, but they should definitely be secondary characters at best.
BlackHulk
BlackHulk - 10/20/2014, 8:04 AM
@ Thewonderer. By Marvel's standards, it was a masterpiece lol. It was the first Marvel movie to feature a fully powered Cap. One that had real super speed, strength, agility, combat skills and durability. A Cap that has the ability to make a 100+ foot jump and not get injured is a Cap that wasn't featured in Cap 1 or Avengers.

I feel like a lot of you didn't even bother to watch the video in which they explain why the number of characters and the fact that they don't have secret identities doesn't have to matter.

I really think the Netflix series is going to tie into all this somehow. Who knows how Age of Ultron will impact things? As far as not having any superpowered characters what does that mean? Cap is obviously superhuman. Thor and Hulk are incredibly powerful. Then you have Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Deathlok. With his enhanced senses I kind of consider Daredevil superhuman. I hope we get the Sentry as well. He's pretty key to a lot of modern Marvel stories/events and would work perfectly in the MCU. To me the missing piece is Spidey. But if they can't work out something with Sony I could see Daredevil taking his place.
BlackHulk

@ IronAngelX. Now if they made a movie with a fully powered Hulk... boy oh boy.

I complain about too many underused mutant characters in X-Men (because there are). What kind of a hypocrite would I be if I complained about too few superpowered characters in Marvel?

It won't be the comics version of civil war (which was way too unwieldy and broad to be satisfying). The movie version will (most likely) be an abridged and much more coherent narrative.

By the time Avengers 3: Civil War comes out there will be a lot more characters. Cap 3 is just the beginning and will not fully flesh out the Civil War storyline. At the beginning of Cap 3: Sentinel of Liberty, he will be searching for Bucky, find him and they will give more on TWS story. The Russos will most likely focus on the Registration Act and what they will do to to the heroes.

@fettastic

you obviously don't watch Marvel movies…

1) Marvel doesn't have any super-powered characters yet. So that sort of invalidates the whole reason for the Superhero Registration Act.

HULK, THOR, IRONMAN, WAR MACHINE/IRON PAT, CAPTAIN AMERICA, LOKI, MALEKITH, DESTROYER, WINTER SOLDIER, THANOS(ALTHOUGH THANOS IS UNKNOWN TO ANYONE EXCEPT LOKI, AND GOTG CHARACTERS ARE UNKOWN TO EARTH BUT ARE SUPER POWERED.)
AND NOW INTRODUCING QUICK SILVER, SCARLET WITCH, VISION, ULTRON IN AOU.

2) Are they seriously going to have a war between 7 characters?
LOOK ABOVE AT #1

3) None of them have secret identities.
MOST OF THE ESTABLISHED CHARACTERS HAVE HAD THEIR INFORMATION SPILLED OUT FROM THE SHIELD SECRETS BEING LEAKED IN TWS BY WIDOW. BUT THERE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE MANY PEOPLE WHO ARENT EVEN KNOWN YET SO A REGISTRATION ACT WOULD EFFECT THOSE WHO DONT EVEN WANT TO BE HEROES.

4) There is no longer a S.H.I.E.L.D.

YEAH NOW ITS TONY STARKS PRIVATIZED DEFENSE PROGRAM HINTS THE END OF TWS WHERE MARIA HILL IS WORKING FOR STARKS AND THE REASON WHY TONY MAKES ULTRON ROBOTS FOR AOU.

na na na boo boo stick your head in doo doo...

@ slickrickdesigns.

Iron Man/War Machine simply have access to advanced technology but do not have super powers per se. Iron Man at one point did have super powers during the comic book storyline of extremis... but we see how the MCU messed that up. The Destroyer had been destroyed, Malekith is dead but when alive his power was derived from the Aether, otherwise he really had no super powers, just access to advanced technology. Falcon also has no super powers, just access to advanced technology unlike his comic book counterpart. Now I will give you Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Vision, but when you take away Hawkeye and Black Widow (two characters that lack super powers but can do as much damage as those with powers) then you have only 7 active super powered characters.

@Greengo Cap is literally a New Deal liberal

I agree with James about how the Registration Act can be adapted for film.
Hope they have the New Warriors be the catalyst for Reg Act but it's more likely to be Iron Mans guilt over Ultron.

They need to wrap up the Infinity Gauntlet storyline before they do Civil War.

What's interesting is that the justice/freedom distinction doesn't necessarily align with the conservative/liberal political divide. Some liberals will be on IM's side, and some conservatives will be on Cap's side, and vice-versa.

In reality, each political side respects both justice and freedom to some extent, and each has to find its own balance point between them in its ideology.

And that makes it interesting. Any movie conducive to water-cooler conversations is on to a winner.

Re. the DC/Marvel thing, I think actually that people will be very excited to see both movies, they'll both do stonkingly huge business, and if either beats the other it will only be by a relatively small margin.

I think it's too soon for Civil War. This should be something much further down the road in my opinion.

@SaxoWolf

A group of inexperienced heroes engaged some villains in a small town in Connecticut. One of the villains blew up, taking out half of the town.

The government (with Tony Stark as the poster boy) pushed forward legislation to require vigilantes to disclose their identities, recieve appropriate training, and work for SHIELD, or else they would be prosecuted.

Captain America opposed it. Heroes took both sides and villains took both sides (either as renegades like Cap or as sort of a work-release program).

The two sides fought big, killed some of each side, and then the whole thing sort of fizzled out when they had to resolve it. It was supposed to be a "both sides have a legitimate point" thing, but it really just made both sides look bad. And the outcome of the event was a brief period of "government sponsored superhero teams" and villains taking charge of them, but really nothing much changed except I got a bad taste in my mouth over the whole Marvel 616 universe and One More Day (a direct result of Spider-Man's involvement in Civil War) was the last straw that made me swear off Marvel comics for years after.

Still though, if they do it right (i.e. don't make both sides seem like uncompromising ideologues with no capacity for nuance), then it could make a great movie plot.

@ LubedUp. The ones seen in AOS weren't done justice by any means. Absorbing Man and Graviton had no business being on a TV series, but knowing the MCU, those characters wont make it to the big screen. Marvel does not have a track record of doing what makes sense to the average comic book fan. They are in the business of making money, not making sense.

@SaxoWolf
A condensed version:
A group of D-list heroes with a reality show called The New Warriors track down some villains including Nitro to a suburban house near a school in Connecticut.
To impress the cameras the heroes act recklessly.
The New Warriors charge at the villains, Nitro explodes.
Nitro kills hundreds of people including the children at the school.
There is huge public outrage at masked vigilantes.
Tony Stark is contacted by a mother of a child who was killed and promises to stop further instances.
Tony champions a bill for all powered vigilantes to register and reveal their secret identity or be arrested.
Cap having seen the Nazi register the Jews opposes the bill.
Both sides attract their own hero supporters, there are battles, secret meetings, infiltrations, a prison in the negative zone etc.
Generally cap is taking the liberal approach and Iron Man the authoritarian one.
