Joe Johnston and Marvel's comic book adaptation Captain America: The First Avenger starring the Chris Evans was released on DVD and Blu-Ray on October 25, and according to The Numbers.com, in its first five days film sold 1.5 million Blu-Ray units ($40 million) and made another $12 million on DVD (726,235 units). More below:





Great numbers indeed. Captain America: The First Avenger made the most out of all superhero movies this year, beating THOR, X-Men: First Class, The Green Hornet and Green Lantern. Hopefully, this is another step forward to the still unannounced sequel.

"Captain America: The First Avenger" focuses on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving.)

Poor Green Lantern, but oh well. We can still get our sequel if we hope enough and WB does it.

I myself didn't think Capt was all that good second viewing.

That movie was just commercial advertisement for the Avengers. IMO it sucked bit time

This version of Captain America was much better. Superman and Batman had it right!

I'd like to revisit both movies sometime soon and give a genuine critical analysis of both films. Perhaps then I can carefully articulate my reasons for why I believe that Captain America along with Thor seemed to be commercial vehicles with lots of action and little substance in comparison to IM1 & Spidey 1 & 2. Undoubtedly, comic book movies are all commercial vehicles to a certain extent ( merchandise etc) and that's fine. But when advertisement and arbitrary action sequences trump dialog, story and character development, It's no longer my cup o' tea. Instead it leaves me wanting to drink until my memory is exhausted.

I think that this ties with TIH as the number 1 Marvel movie. I'd have it followed by Thor/Iron Man, then Iron Man 2. I LOVED THIS MOVIE! :D

Captain America barely had any mention of the Avengers, besides the very very end, all the way after the credits. There was no Jack Fury to tie into Nick, and the Cosmic Cube being from Odin's vault was a natural story element. Howard Stark was already established as being a top scientist during WW2 in IM. Red Skull being sent to Asgard was a great way to allow him to come back in future movies without him aging. Besides those points I can not see anything else that ties into Avengers.

Also the film's first act had virtually no action. It wasn't until the second half of the film that we began to see action (minus the chase scene in NY). Everything was about character development and Steve on a mission to serve his country.

In the end I'm pretty sure Iron Man had about the same amount of Avenger tie in moments as Cap did. One final scene with Fury and Coulson talking about SHIELD. Cap had a final scene with Fury, Howard is Tony's father, who was not forced, and the Cube tied into Thor(Which no one but comic fans noticed)...that's it.

Anyways, I do believe that Cap and IM are really close. I always loved TIH too. My favorites are:
1) CA:TFA
2) IM
3) TIH
4) Thor
5) IM2

The truth is IM2 is the only film that isn't very good. Marvel has made fun and entertaining movies, with a sprinkle of the Marvel magic that has given the films heart.

In order to respond to your claims I am going to have the watch the film again. But by the time I get around to doing that this thread will be long gone. The only thing I can do at this moment is assert and offer quotation as support. Hopefully that can show you what I did not like about the film.

1.) I found the historical reenactment ( behavior, setting) unconvincing. "The period detail (old cars! women called dames!) is only a little more convincing than a theme park ride."

2.) I did not enjoy the almost seemingly arbitrary montage action sequences during the middle of the movie. "One of the biggest issues is that Captain America isn't all that super. When, for the first time, Captain has his official government-issued suit and Howard Stark's (Iron Man's dad!) red, white and blue Vibranium shield, he hurtles into the world of...montage"

3.) Steve Rodgers seem to have more depth without the super solder serum. "Evans wears the suit well. It's just that the character of Captain America is paper-thin. Actually, worse than that. He starts with a bit of an arc thanks to the weakling with a big heart who won't back down angle, but once he dons the suit, that goes out the window."

WHY would ANYONE buy the fourth Pirates dvd?? it was just the LOUSIEST movie of this summer. i just don't understand after the awesome Dead Man's Chest, the filmmakers seem to have lost their mojos for making GREAT entertaining movie.
