Anthony Mackie seemed to be the biggest trash-talker when it came to the nonexistent rivalry between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the growing DC Extended Universe. However, when the Captain America: Civil War star spoke with Empire, Flickering Myth, and IGN at the press junket for his new crime thriller Triple 9, he discussed the opposing universes, as well as what we should expect from Marvel Studios’ first outing this year.
“It’s still strange to me that people think DC and Marvel are rivals, thinking we sit on the Marvel sets talking (trash) about DC,” Anthony Mackie told Flickering Myth last week. When he asked about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and who he’s rooting for, the actor said, “If I had to pick, I’d pick Batman… Michael Keaton is my favorite Batman, though if I got to hang out with Morgan Freeman for the rest of my life, I’d be happy!”
About Captain America: Civil War, Anthony Mackie told IGN that it will be “very different” from the previous movies. “I feel the best Marvel movies thus far have been Iron Man and Winter Soldier,” he said. “And I think this movie far surpasses those two movies. I think the Russo brothers and Marvel have done a very good job with upping the ante every movie. And this one definitely does not fail to live up to that.” During his interview with Empire, Mackie declared the upcoming Marvel threequel a “true suspense thriller.” “The build-up to the fight is what makes it so interesting,” he added. “Because there are so many different factions of who’s right and who’s wrong and who supports who. Once we get all of that out the way, then it becomes more action-packed and more of us kicking each other’s’ ass. If it’s a civil war, you have to establish why there’s a war,” Anthony Mackie continued. “You can’t just start fighting and expect people to appreciate it. What Marvel is very good at doing is making these stories about characters and story and then layering action on top of that. And this holds true to that.” What do you think?
