Disney is currently hard at work on Star Wars Land, but you have to believe that Disney Parks will soon start featuring more great Marvel content. A Marvel Land of some sort feels like an inevitability and Digital Trends have now come across an attraction which will allow visitors to wield Captain America's shield. It all sounds pretty complicated but the patent best describes what we can expect.
"In one embodiment, the throwing apparatus is a toy device that permits the user to play the role of a superhero who uses the projectile to attack virtual or physical targets (e.g., toys) or defend against attacks from the targets or other players in an immersive storytelling environment," it reads. In other words, you're going to be able to throw a replica of Cap's shield across a rail in a virtual reality setting.
VR is becoming more and more popular, with at least twenty VR-enhanced roller coasters in operation in the US alone. Disney's Toy Story Mania ride actually uses VR headsets, so they've clearly got an idea of how to use the technology. The company is clearly planning on incorporating physical props into this attraction too as the shield being attached to a rail means it will return to you after throwing it just as it always does to Captain America. The patent has yet to be approved, though, so it's a long way off.
Regardless, this is a good sign we're getting more Marvel rides in Disney Parks, so start getting excited!
