Sebastian Stan Dishes On Captain America; Will He Appear In The Avengers?

Ultimately discussing filming & training for his 'Bucky' role in Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger, the actor seemed hazy when asked about The Avengers! Check it out!

In a video interview with the New York Post, the actor behind 'Bucky' in Marvel & Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger, Sebastian Stan, dishes on the filming experience as well training among other things. At the end of the video, while it may be a stretch, when the actor was questioned would he appear in Marvel's The Avengers, he got a bit choked up. Check it!

With the trades listing Stan's Captain America co-star Derek Luke reprising his "Gabe Jones' role in Marvel's The Avengers, as well Stan's reply in the video above, I can't help but imagine The Avengers will possibly open in a WW2 setting; similar to the Ultimates comic. What do you think of that?

Captain America: The First Avenger focuses on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull. Starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Stanley Tucci and Hugo Weaving, the film releases July 22, 2011.

I hope we see the Winter Soldier too. I'm afraid they are probably going to go the Ultimate route though, where Bucky survives to old age. Probably no Infinity formula for the Howling Commandos either, since it appears that Nick Fury isn't involved in the WWII scenes. I may be wrong though, I guess we'll have to see. I imagine its going to be a hybrid of 616 and Ultimate Comics. I hope we see MODOK and Zemo at some point.

Actually, Green Lantern appears in The First Avenger. It's a brief scene that takes place at night.

Here's a production still:

He works as Bucky...Winter Soldier is another thing. He will be quite the wimpy Winter Soldier regardless of how hard he hits the weights. He doesn't have much to work with.

If Cap's sequel takes place after his first action in this new movie and not after what I'm assuming is his last mission during the WW II era, Bucky can't be winter soldier. If they go this direction I would think that there would be refrences to some of Caps other villains from previous missions in the movie tho.
If they continue from the Avenger story line, maybe they set up Winter Soldiers story from there. Not sure how that would work after something as epic as Loki controlling the Hulk and/or an Skrull invasion.

Just kill this dude off in Captain America. He's Rogers friend, he gets killed and provides Cap with some emotional motivation. Leave him in the past and get on with the real characters.

Intruder@ Yes, Winter Soldier doesn't have the bulk that Cap does, but he is still in great shape. Stan isn't even close. The guy has a tiny frame. His girlfriend is bigger than he is. ;-)

I actually look forward to seeing him become winter soldier and maybe even hold the mantle of Cap in a future film. That would be awesome!
cosmicstranger
cosmicstranger - 6/22/2011, 8:35 AM
Let's not overload the Avengers movie, por favor. Also, does this movie not already have enough characters WITHOUT super powers (Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury)?
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 6/22/2011, 1:33 PM
cosmicstranger Captain America DOES have Super powers.

But you can relax. It's highly unlikely that fanboy wishes of Winter Soldier will materialize in a movie. Cap is already a hard sell to the genpub, Winter Soldier is even more obscure to people. MARVEL still has a roster of greater and more interesting heroes than him. Uknown with a cheezy name is a gamble.
