CAPTAIN MARVEL Will Feature A "Very Different" Type Of Origin Story According To Kevin Feige

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has shed some light on what comic book fans should expect from Captain Marvel and it definitely doesn't sound as if we're getting a typical superhero origin story...

It's been clear since the teaser trailer that Captain Marvel won't feature a traditional origin story as it appears as if we'll be learning about Carol Danvers' past right alongside her. Now, during an interview at the British Academy Britannia Awards, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was quick to reiterate that, confirming that fans should expect the unexpected.

"It takes place in the 1990s and while it is an origin story of our hero, it is a very different type of origin story which we’re excited to unveil to audiences," he teased, adding that the Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed movie has "come together extremely well."

"[Larson] does a tremendous job. Sam Jackson is a very different version of Nick Fury, does an amazing job, the entire cast — this one is very different and very exciting," Feige concluded. Considering the fact Captain Marvel takes place in the past, common sense says that we can expect it to tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some expected ways, hence why Fury is along for the ride.

Are you excited for Captain Marvel? As always, share your thoughts in the comments section.

Most MCU origin stories are forgetable and meh. Only ones ive cared for are the original Iron Man and Captain America TFA.

@Edministrator - I love origin stories in comics so it sucks when they're forgettable. I would think thats where you want to do some of your best work. Its what pulls you into the character.

Those misplaced and/or fabricated memories probably make it the kind of different he is talking about

@BlackBeltJones - Would be cool if who we think is Carol is actually a Skrull trying to make sense of these aquired memories. She tries to infiltrate Shield as Carol then BANG!!! The real Carol shows up and wallops the Skrull copy right in the kisser. So we've seen her origin story, but through the eyes of her Skrull imposter.

@BigDriggs - Thanks :)
I think it would too!
I like shifts in expectations in lead characters. The movie Prestige had something like that, where the antagonist is actually the protagonist and vice versa. I would love for Captain Marvel to do that even if I expect it.
To me, that scene where she looks like she's being mind controlled, is probably actually where the Skrulls are mining her brain to feed info to her Skrull counterpart.
So while we think Jude Law is a bad guy in this, he's probably just trying to stop Skrull Carol... But we think he's a baddie, cause we not in on it yet.

@Highball - Damn, I really like that idea, but I feel it's kind of a lot for the GA to follow.

@L0RDbuckethead - That's probably very true hehehe and I agree, it might be too convoluted. But what the heck, let's just throw some ideas around :)

The MCU has been getting better in telling distinct origin stories imo. I have a feeling this will be their strongest one yet. I'm so excited to see the protector of skies in action!
