On Saturday evening, we shared a new promo for The Marvels which kicked off with a dire warning from Thanos. On the surface, it appears to simply be a way for Marvel Studios to remind us that Carol Danvers managed to overpower the Mad Titan in Avengers: Endgame.
However, now a couple of days have passed, some fans have taken a closer look at the footage and unearthed a somewhat startling revelation. We hear the villain say, "There will always be more to finish my work," and it turns out this is actually a new line of dialogue not previously heard in the MCU.
The rest is obviously lifted from the previous Avengers movies, and while it's possible Marvel Studios has recycled some of Josh Brolin's lines which didn't make it into Infinity War and Endgame, even that raises some interesting questions.
Ultimately, the insinuation here is that Kree villain Dar-Benn is looking to pick up where Thanos left off. Is it possible she was a disciple of the Mad Titan or simply a believer in his mission to wipe out half of all life in the universe? Previous TV spots have suggested she plans to commit mass genocide on planets Carol Danvers has called home, though we're not sure how that mission links to Thanos unless further changes have been made during reshoots.
Remember, it's recently been reported that Marvel Studios has added a game-changing cameo which is likely to have significant ramifications across Multiverse Saga in movies like Deadpool, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars. Another recent TV spot also confirmed plans for an Asgardian to appear.
With that in mind, a flashback featuring Dar-Benn and Thanos (prior to his death, of course) would be another huge cameo for a movie which, thus far, largely appears to be flying under the majority's radar. There's not long to go until we find out whether Brolin will reprise his role as the villain, anyway!
