Back in June, Brian Michael Bendis teased that he was nearing his run on Superman but DC Comics fans didn't really have a clear idea of just how close Bendis was to wrapping up his story.   "I'm heading towards the end of my run on Superman, so I've been more reflective on it," teased Bendis in June. "And it's — I'll never be more grateful than I got to heal my near-death experience through Superman, and get through this pandemic. No matter what's going on with this world, I get to spend a few hours each day with Superman. That's a gift."

Bendis went on to caution that his final issue was still a ways off.   "It's sooooo far away. Kind of a non-headline. Don't even worry about it today."

Now, the recently released December solicitations from DC Comics have revealed that Bendis' final issue of Superman will be released on December 15, while his final Action Comics issue will drop a week later on December 22.  Bendis made his DC Comics debut in Action Comics #1000 (June 2018) and relaunched Superman with a #1 issue in July 2018. Bendis had written for Marvel for over 17 years before jumping ship to DC back in 2018.

At this point, Bendis is still set to write his ongoing Legion of Super-Heroes title with artist Ryan Sook and Wade Von Grawbadger but what other titles Bendis starts in January (or potentially sooner) remains to be seen.  It's possible that the second part of DC FanDome (which kicks off later today) might reveal more on Bendis' future plans .

@TheMapleSyrup - Thank Bebo!!!!! Hopefully they don’t get someone worse to fix his mess.

Haven't actually read anything from Bendis' DC work, so I can't say it's bad. Still, good for Bendis if it helped himself

What happened to Bendis?! Guy was one of the best writers in the business in the early 2000s. Then he's just done tons of controversial series recently...

@Nightwing1015 - What happened to Bendis?

He thinks his story ideas are better than anything that came before, and nothing that comes after will ever compare. It's why he comes in, wrecks whatever continuity that was setup, and then leaves a mess for future writers to deal with.

Also a very creepy obsession with Kitty Pryde.

I read the twists he did regarding Mon-El being somehow Jon Kent's grandchild and not being a Daxamite anymore plus the way Supergirl behaved around Superboy wasn't IMO how she actually would.

So I welcome whoever takes over now.

Ding, Dong, the bastard's gone!
He ruined the Superfamily and the Legion in one fell swoop.

Praise Rao. :')

I legit want to cry from happiness.

Thank god he's gone. Superman and the Superfamily were on such an interesting path before he took over. I razzed him on IG a bit about bringing the red undies back and the guy actually blocked me. Only good thing he ever did was bring us Miles Morales
ThePhantazm - 9/12/2020, 11:13 AM
@duncboy - He also gave us the best Daredevil run imo. Also Jessica Jones.

Praise Omega!
Can we get to deaging Jon now? I don't mind if he keeps the fugly supersuit, I juts need him to be a kid again.
ThePhantazm - 9/12/2020, 11:16 AM
I feel like Bendis is one of those writers that just fits better with Marvel. Same thing with Joss Whedon. He creates magic when he works with Marvel (Avengers, X-men) but is crap with DC (Justice League, Wonder Woman).
99OPTIMISTPRIME - 9/12/2020, 11:25 AM

Superman and Action Comics, should never have exclusively the same writer. Plus Bendis was writing other DC books as well. You can't let one writer, hog up so much stuff, you gotta give fans some variety.
BlackIceJoe - 9/12/2020, 12:35 PM
This is phenomenal news. He has been bad for DC and Superboy suffered a lot because of him.
RolandD - 9/12/2020, 1:44 PM
Who takes over and has to do all the retcons?
BritishMonkey - 9/12/2020, 1:55 PM
At last.
zeon00 - 9/12/2020, 2:29 PM
Bring back kid Jon Kent Superboy
John75 - 9/12/2020, 4:59 PM
Nope, get rid of it all. Marriage, kid, all the other kryptonian survivors, all of it! These are the stories you do when you’re at the end of his career. I want the Superman we haven’t seen since the 90’s where no one knows his secret identity and he was unique. The true sole survivor of Krypton and the real first superhero of DC universe not Wonder Woman. Everything since has been watered down garbage. After that get rid of the so called “bat’ family. It seems like now every teenager with a attitude can do Batman’s job and every second story has Bruce having a breakdown. Bring back what was unique about these characters not a hundred different alternate versions of them. Stop trying to shoehorn in the JSA into their history, they can have their own Earth 2 and history because we’re getting so far away from their 1940’s origin it’s seems so ridiculous to have them as an influence now.

Haven't read his Superman run but I did love his run on Daredevil and Alais was good.
