Well it's that simple. Here's my list of the most disappointing comic book movies of all time. (core franchises only)

1. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: Makes the list as number one due to the insane amount of hype that surrounded it just to fall like a stone. Even now it's hard to see how DC could have dropped the ball on what could arguably be the most important movie in WB history. I call it the most important due to it being the only film in WB/DC history meant to spawn an entire filmverse of movies. This movie was way to crucial to end up being even the slightiest bit questionable. But we know how that turned out...RAZZIES anyone? Also critically panned and under performed by 100's of millions.

2. Spider-man 3: I was a HUGE Spider-man fan when that movie came out. Spider-man 2 was like the best movie ever. I'm still in shock at how bad that movie was. what a disappointment!

3. Suicide Squad:  Awful. Movie. Critics are calling it the Fantastic Four of the DCCU. The movie is rated 1% lower than BvS on RT. SS barely broke even at around 7-750mil at the end of it's run. Just let that sink in for a minute. A movie with Batman, Joker and Harley, DC's three most popular characters was lucky to break even at the end of it's run. After all the Nolan hype this was the best a movie featuring the follow up Joker could do? I mean TDK was a phenomenon! Wow DC...just wow.

4. Wolverine Origins. Because they didn't even try.

5. Man of Steel: Remember how people felt seeing that first teaser trailer. Nothing but Superman blasting straight into the sky like a rocket. "It's the return of the KING!!" people shouted. Than what happened? Under performed BIG time at the B.O. and to this day is one of the most divisive cbms of all time. Who would have thought at the time that was the beginning of the end for the DCCU. The later films of the DCCU would be lucky to be this divisive.

6. Green Lantern: People forget...GL was supposed to be the official start to the DCCU. That's how bad it did. No one remembers or cares. GL is not just the biggest cbm flop of all time but probably out of ALL movies period. True story. Not only was it god awful but even after DVD sales it was 240mil negative after ticket sales.

7. Superman Returns: I was a pretty big Superman fan when this movie came out. Can you imagine my disappointment? Not only that but it's the second biggest flop in cbm history after GL with a whooping 140mil negative after ticket sales.

8. Fantastic Four(2015): Coming in as the third biggest cbm flop of all time with 130mil negative after ticket sales. Bad, FOX! With 9% RT score. Just a terrible movie.

9. The Dark Knight Rises: I'm a firm believer that this film only put up the numbers due to the good will of TDK. TDK was such a phenomenon, the Oscar buzz, Nolan's insane following it was just simply no way the sequel to that movie could have failed. But it should have. Rises failed on every level. I know hardened Batman fans who still to this day say TDK is the best movie ever but will tell you Rises sucked.

10. X-men: Apocalypse: After First Class and DOFP needless to say people had high hopes for this one. It barely broke even with 539mil and sits at a 48% on RT. What makes this so bad is how great the two films before it were. DOFP made like 730mil and averaged a 90%. After this and Deadpool people thought FOX was on the up swing only to be disappointed. weak film.

If I had to choose a MCU film it would be Iron Man 2. It was a letdown for sure but I did like the action tho.

@ComicBookGuy015 - Idk Thor: the Dumb World I have seen three times and still can't tell you dick about the plot. Iron man 2 I personally didnt mind as much as most. I was actually more disappointed by Iron Man 3 than 2. But Thor 2 is probably the worst quality wise.

@ComicBookGuy015 - Its like u guys want me to come out and say it. I mean [frick], people forget how highly anticipated films like The Hulk were. That was a major disappointment, and for some who seems to be doing DC's greatest hits of superhero bashing, how come we don't have Superman Returns. Highly bias list.

Cap America 1 should be on this.

Every Fan Four movie, Silver Surfer one especially.

A Dame To Kill For after years they bring out that trash Batman Forever.

Its just DCEU or recent movies, that didn't under perform anywhere near the movies I mentioned and at best have had mixed to positive results with audiences.

@aresww3 - What about Judge Dredd, Ghost Rider, Superman 3, Thor movies all trash, Iron Man 3 (and I liked that movie, but still major disappointment among fans) And many many more

@aresww3 - He states that its main line movies so GR, Dredd are excluded. Thor (i havent liked either of them) made money, that is a valid criteria. I would guess Incredible Hulk did also, just not alot. Say what u will, but IM3 made 1billion$.

His list seems to be in 2 parts... huge let downs in terms of hype leading into it (BvS for example) and huge $$ loss. MCU movies, especially in the beginning when they didnt have huge budgets, haven't lost money. And the Dark World is just terrible. So is Rises. and FF movies have all beem dumpster fires.

I would move Green Lantern and Suicide Squad to the back end of the list. Were they Great cinematic benchmarks? No, but they weren't as bad as some of the other films. Batman vs Superman... how could you possibly screw it up? They found a way. It was pretty dull and moody, maybe some Pamprin would help. SS went in as a serious contender, but they cut it back so much, there wasn't much left. But, it was at least entertaining.

Green Lantern, I'm not really sure where it went wrong. It had a good universe of characters to draw from, but just missed the mark. It wasn't Fantastic Four bad, or even Wolverine bad. It just wasn't great.

I would've had AoU on the list. It was an okay movie, but after the first Avengers I was really let down.

@Valdez - Ya, i didn't love it either. Good but it was missing something
TheDayman

@sikwon - Yeah, that's how I feel too. It just felt like a repeat of the first Avengers, but more convoluted and with worse jokes.

Weirdly, I was more let down by Civil War than BvS.

X-Men: The Last Stand deserves a spot on here. It followed X2, which was really good.

Avengers: AoU should probably be on here too.

Man of Steel shouldn't be though.

@Philip - Me too. Especially after everyone freaking out about it. I was in the theatre and as we got further in, I almost forgot about the Sekovia Accords AKA WHAT THE MOVIE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT!!! Zemo was the most unnecessary villain in, quite possibly, any movie. There were no real stakes and, upon learning that this was supposed to set the stage for Infinity War, I feel the split wasn't what it should have been. It was my second most disappointing movie of 2016 behind Suicide Squad.

@AMrSundayGirl58 - Really? I thought they did a good job with it. My only issue was how fast they assembled the different teams, especially Caps. I never lost sight of the accords or the tension.
