New TV Ads for DC 52 Collected Editions

New TV Ads for DC 52 Collected Editions

Will the launch of these collections bring in more non comic book readers and movie fans with all the movie hype at the moment?

Earlier today, comics news and gossip site Bleeding Cool revealed a pair of TV spots for DC Comics’ New 52 collected editions, which began coming out this week with Justice League Volume 1: Origin by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee. The collections will continue to be published throughout the summer, with the last of them arriving in September, a year after their stories began.

Featuring a two-minute version and a 30-second version, the ads are reportedly designed for local comic book shops to attach themselves to and run on television, subsidized to the tune of 75% by DC with the retailers paying the rest. Timed, perhaps, to coincide with Free Comic Book Day, these ads appear to be a direct market-only offer. There’s no indication that other venues, such as bookstores who will also carry the collections, would be able to participate.

The ads seem pretty much to be the same ones that DC ran on BBC America and a few other places back in September when the New 52 launched, with no voice over but instead an instrumental riff playing over images from the first issues of the New 52 comics.

Will you be picking up any of the new trades?

Cancelled is the wrong word, the comics that only made it to issue 8 were planned that way to make room for the second wave.

I don't understand why I am seeing these commercials on BBC America, but not G4.

If you want to know about the Trinity War you need to pick up the Free Comic Book Day DC comic.

About damn time. I'm really not a person who can follow or collect "issues", I need bound volumes.

Definitely will pick JL, probably WW, Flash, and Nightwing too.
