PLASTIC MAN: Female-Led Spin On The DC Comics Property In The Works At Warner Bros.

PLASTIC MAN: Female-Led Spin On The DC Comics Property In The Works At Warner Bros.

We first heard about a Plastic Man movie being in the works around two years ago, but it's now been revealed that the project is back in development, this time with a female-led spin. So, Plastic Woman?

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Black List scribe Cat Vasko has been hired to write the Plastic Man movie for Warner Bros.

We first heard about the project back in 2018 when Amanda Idoko (The Mayor) was tasked with penning a comedic take on the classic DC Comics character. However, with Vasko coming aboard the adaptation, the plan is for it to be taken in a completely different direction.

Sources tell the trade that while Plastic Man is in the very early stages of development, it will now be a "female-led vehicle." That presumably means we can expect a title change, though it's too soon to say for sure.

Vasko is known for working on female stories, and recently wrote Queen of the Air (which is set to star Margot Robbie) as well as an adaptation of Boom! comic book series Lumberjanes. The writer is also penning an untitled fairly tale project for Disney+.

As for Plastic Man, he was introduced by Quality Comics in 1941 and later acquired by DC Comics in 1956. A crook turned good guy, he's become a real fan-favourite despite his goofy powers.

As you might expect, there's no words on a director or cast at this stage, but it should be worth keeping an eye on how this latest DC movie comes together.

Cool. He's a Minor DC character in THE massive DC catalogue. Maybe re-working this dated character will endear him/her to a modern audience.

@kitheka - or they could just adapt one of the many great female characters they have, a lot of which are more popular than plastic man anyway.

Ill check it out, but really there are other characters they could use like Rita Farr

@dracula - exactly. Right off the top of my head, a starfire movie would be good due to the popularity of both teen titans cartoons. Thats gonna be a much larger fanbase then plastic man, and thats going under the assumption the plastic man fans will be totally fine with the gender swap.
