EDITORIAL: The 20th Century Fox Cinematic Universe and Where It Should Take Us - Part 2

Although they've had their stinkers (X: TLS, XO Wolverine, F4, F4: RotSS), the people over at 20th Century Fox can get it right (X-Men, X2, X: FC, X: DoFP). Their last film was very well received and I hope that their upcoming ones are as well. Last time you joined me in the editorial section we talked about X-Men Apocalypse and Wolverine's third solo film. This time we delve in to X-Force, Deadpool, and even more!!! So without further ado, I give you the 20th Century Fox Cinematic Universe!!!

The X-Men universe is a vast one that has yet to be explored in a way that it should be explored. We started off this journey with X-Men: Apocalypse and Wolverine: Revelations (self-titled) and from there we will continue. Not only will our favorite merc with a mouth make his first proper appearance, but so will his best friends, worst enemies, worst and best frenemies and then some. So without further ado I can tell you one thing.....

X-FORCE - (2017)
"20th Century Fox are in development for a film version of X-Force. On July 11, 2013, it was reported that Jeff Wadlow has been hired to write the adaptation, with chances that he will also direct. Lauren Shuler Donner will produce. On December 3, 2013, Rob Liefeld confirmed that Cable and Deadpool would be appearing in the film." - wikipedia

The X-Force are essentially the black-ops team of the X-Men. The title started in the 90's in New Mutants with the original roster of Boom Boom, Cable, Cannonball, Domino, Feral, Shatterstar and Warpath. Judging by the picture above, you might think that's the roster for the team. If so you're wrong, off by one person. Nathan Summers, also known as Cable. Cable is not only a great character, but a character that deserves to be on the big screen. So many fans want to see him in an X-Men movie, including this one, and this would be the movie to put him in.

If you have not read my first X-Men universe article, you should see it on the side of this article or you can click right here!!! If you read it, you'd know that both the after credits scenes for X-Men: Apocalypse and Wolverine: Revelations led up to X-Force. These set up Apocalypse's second coming. There's one storyline in the comics that involved the X-Force and Apocalypse and I saw this as the perfect opportunity to have an X-Force film. The story arc this is based off of appears in Uncanny X-Force and is titled The Apocalypse Solution. It follows Wolverine, Psyloke, Fantomex, Archangel, and Deadpool on a mission to kill apocalypse in the form of a young boy who has been resurrected by his cult followers.

The movie would take cues from this storyline, but would not be a direct adaption. One completely different thing about this film is that it is essentially a Days of Future Past type story, but it only erases a couple minor moments in history, but only really affects the time between 2023 and 2043 when Apocalypse returns. The movie begins in 2043 where the rebel mutants, calling themselves the X-Force, are meeting in Cavern X, their secret base of operations. An old man Logan, Nathan Summers, Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock,  Lucas Bishop, Jean-Phillipe, Warren Worthington, and Wade Wilson discuss their plan for going back in time to kill Apocalypse when he was a child. Bishop tells them of the time traveling properties he added to Jean's EVA. He tells them that it isn't like the stories Logan tells them of the old timeline, in that their bodies will be physically taken back in time not just their conscious. He says it might be dangerous, but they're willing to take a risk. After a small battle with Mr. Sinister's Marauders, everyone, except Bishop who stays back to operate the time machine, goes back in time.

In the past (1993) the team would first search for Apocalypse's cult Clan Akkaba, get attacked by stone statues, and eventually find their hideout in Egypt (no not the moon like the comic) and fight Apocalypse's final Horsemen. I'd love to see a long, beautifully choreographed, rigorous, and violent battle between the X-Force and the Horsemen. I'd also love all of the X-Force to get their spotlight equally, even Wolvie (this being his last movie and Jackman's last appearance as Wolverine).

One running gag throughout the movie would be that every time Deadpool cusses he'd be censored by some unknown force. He would address it, but his team mates would see it as Deadpool being Deadpool. It would happen more towards the beginning and after a good break it would come back at the end (after he's already complained ot the audience that his team mates have cussed) in a hilarious way that reminds the audience of the joke from earlier. After the last time it happens, he looks to the camera and says "to see me without this stupid censors check out my solo film next year!!!".

Warren Worthington, or Angel, would be a younger age than he naturally would be in 2043. When Apocalypse first invades he has his horsemen, but replaces one with X-Men to hurt the team. During Warren's transformation in to Archangel, the X-Men save him before being totally consumed by evil. Due to this, Archangel can come out at any time and Worthington's age is
restored to the one he had when Apocalypse first invaded. Him being a teenager at that time, Warren is in his 30's (at least appears to be) during this movie.

One big part of the story that I would keep is the death of kid Apocalypse. At first, none of them wanting to kill a kid, the X-Force decided to take the child and reeducate him, possibly making him a force for good and the Ultimate X-Man. This is when Fantomex blasts a hole in the kid's head. The movie ends with a fazed team returning to the future. When they get there nothing has changed. Bishop proposes one idea towards the end. He says that by sending physical people back in time they may not have changed history, but created an alternate universe that diverges from the one they know at that point. The team is enraged and blame Fantomex, who doesn't respond to their comments. A quiet Logan breaks his silence and says that it isn't Philippe's fault. He says that even if he didn't kill Apocalypse they'd still return to the same future. He just made sure Apocalypse would definitely not return again...

DEADPOOL V THE WORLD: DAWN OF INSANITY (working title) - (2018)
"Phew! That's what happens when you mix C4 with a bean burrito. Now be honest... I'm not the only one with a little bit of shit in their pants right now, am I? " - who the hell do you think?

We've all been waiting for a Deadpool movie and we still haven't gotten it yet. I love this character and I want to see him done right on the big screen. I think Ryan Reynolds portrayal was great, up till the part where he became....yeah I don't wanna speak about it. This Deadpool would be closer to the one we know and love and would only take off his mask for dramatic affect.

It'd be R for violence, strong language, and nudity. You CAN'T forget nudity. It'd be a violent action comedy and nothing more. We'd probably see at least cameos from all of D. Pooly's friends and Bob: Agent of Hydra will probably be his sidekick. If not him than Weasel for sure. I'd love to see Jay Baruchel as either of them.

In my head, the movie would open up with a sad and depressed Wade Wilson standing on top of his apartment building, about to jump, while he's narrating talking about how horrible his life was.As the narration stops, Wade jumps off of the building; but jumps too far as he hits the side of another building falls in to a trash dump and a homeless man laughs at him. Shockingly Wade gets up from the fall no harm done. He shouts "WOOHOO!!! SUICIDE ROCKS!!!!" He looks over at the homeless man who shakes his head in disapproval. Two voices begin to argue back and forth, they're subtitled in a yellow dialogue box and a white dialogue box respectively.

WHITE VOICE: That was in VERY bad taste.

YELLOW VOICE: Oh forget him!!! You're just being truthful here right?

WHITE VOICE: Well the truth hurts...

YELLOW VOICE: Yeah, like my dick after I put it in YO MOMMA!!!

WHITE VOICE: Technically, as we are figments of Wade's imagination,-

WADE WILSON: (interruptingDeadpoooool!!!

WHITE VOICE: We have the same...'momma'....and she's dead!

YELLOW VOICE: That's why it hurt!!! Do you know how hard dead vagina is?

WHITE VOICE: Your stepping across the line!!!

YELLOW VOICE: And your stepping....on my nerves so will you please-

WADE WILSON: GUYS!!! Shut-up will ya'!!!

The homeless man looks oddly at Wade who is talking to...someone?

WADE WILSON: (cont'd) You know how bad your making me look in front of
the wonderful people sitting in the movie theater at this moment or at home or watching it on their respective mobile devices?  I'm the ONLY person whose head voices argue with each other. I feel embarrassed.

Wade crosses his arms like a 5 year old boy who got yelled at for constantly taking the clothes off of his sisters Barbie dolls.

WHITE VOICE: Uh....Wa-err....Deadpool?

WADE WILSON: Yes head voice?

WHITE VOICE: You're kinda like the only person with head voices.....

WADE WILSON: .....what...?

WHITE VOICE: T
he wonderful people sitting in the movie theater at this moment or at home or watching it on their respective mobile devices don't have head voices. At least in the way you do.

WADE WILSON: .....what......?

WHITE VOICE: I'm saying that-

YELLOW VOICE: YOU'RE GODDAMN CRAZY ALRIGHT!!!

Wade turns to the camera as it rapidly zooms in on his face.

WADE WILSON: (a la Young & the Restless) WHAT???????

He goes on to explain why he survived that fall, Weapon X, and how his life has been different since then. I'd LOVE to see the head voices go at it throughout the entire movie. It'd just be fun to see 3 versions of Deadpool go at each other. I I could choose ANY two people to play these voices. I'd have the yellow box head voice be voiced by Nolan North (if he didn't already voice Deadpool), Seth MacFarlane, or Will Friedle. North has played Deadpool several times and does a great job with it, MacFarlane is hilarious and does so many voices that he'd be awesome ,and Will Friedle's higher pitched Deadpool in Ultimate Spider-Man was great!!!

For the the box head voice I'd choose Liam Neeson (with reference to "I will find you, and I will kill you", Morgan Freeman (he must say "titty sprinkles", James Earl Jones (must be a Darth Vader reference. Maybe begins to breathe heavily (a la Vader) and says he has asthma), or Patrick Stewart (Prof. X reference). I think any of these guys would do awesome in the role and I'd love to see them each do more comedic stuff.

For the director I have a bunch of people in my head that would do good with this movie. My first choice is the team of two very talented young directors named Phil Lord and Chris Miller. I think they're directing style is SOOO great and I'd love to see them take on another R rated comedy,

but this time with more action. Another director I'd like to see on the project is Edgar Wright. After leaving production on his passion project Ant-Man think Edgar Wright should get another shot directing a CBM. I think Deadpool is the perfect movie for his style and he'd do an amazing job with it.

The one person who I think could do an AMAZING job with this film would Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino is one of the greatest directors working today. He's a self-proclaimed comic book fan who at one point wanted to take Luke Cage to the big screen with Laurence Fishburne as the hero for hire himself. I think hyper-realistic and extra violent nature, with his humor, long monolog's (which would be perfect for the Merc with a Mouth!!!), pop culture references, and extra quotable lines, Tarantino would be (IMHO) the best candidate for this film. Uma Thurman would probably end up as Domino, Outlaw, or Copycat.

I don't know exactly what the plot will be, but Deadpool will be trying to kill someone for someone, and encounter a lot of someone's along the way. With him would be his best pal Bob Agent of HYDRA. I'd like there to be a running gag where Bob's agency is censored o matter who says it. Deadpool would of course tell the audience this is because Marvel Studios owns the rights to the Agency and they might get sued if they say it.

The after credits scene would have Deadpool, Bob, Blind Al, and Domino/Outlaw/Copycat sitting in a Mexican restaurant that's destroyed eating chimichangas. Right before it ends Deadpool would look at the camera and say "Get it!?!?!"

X-MEN: CHILDREN OF THE ATOM - (2018)

"One of the things I would love to see on-screen is the original X-Men (Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast and Angel) as exactly that. X-Men: First Class presented the early days of Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, but had a mishmash of team members, with Beast being the only member of the comic book First Class in sight. It would be fantastic for Marvel’s first X-Men movie to focus on the teenage (or young adult) team, dealing with their newfound powers and the world’s distaste for mutantkind." - @staypuffed

This movie would be the OFFICIAL start of a brand new X-Men franchise. This movie would be what we thought First Class was going to be. It would feature the original line-up with the addition of Storm. With a younger storm making her first appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse I see there being no reason to leave her out of the fun.

The movie would follow the team of young mutants as they deal with racism, discrimination, prejudice, violence, and peer pressure from other mutants who have joined the mutant terrorist group The Brotherhood. It's lead by a man named Erik Leshnerr. You only get to know where their base is if you're accepted in to the group. The Brotherhood started off with internet videos and writing their name around New York. It's escalated to violence since then. They formed after Apocalypse's attack.

One thing I'd love the movies ot explore is the hate humans have for mutants. It's like the civil rights movement yet on a global scale and the amount of people supporting the one's being mistreated is on a much less even ratio. I'd love to see the world of the X-Men take a more real approach. What if people with powers straight out of comic books really showed up in the real world. They'd be hunted, killed, hated, pushed out of society. In America and (some) other 1st world countries, Mutants would be treated like minorities in the segregation period of the U.S. In second and third world countries the problem would be worse. Some countries publicly hanging, killing, raping, beating mutants. Killing children on the site of them being mutants.

Charles would send Hank McCoy, Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Ororo Monroe, Warren Worthington, and Bobby Drake around the world on missions to save mutants or stop mutant massacre's. Countries would accuse the U.S. of interfering. Charles Xavier would make it clear that they don't represent the U.S., but all of the mutants around the world at a U.N. conference. A hired mercenary (disguised as a guard) would attempt to shoot Charles, but the bullet is stopped by Erik in his first appearance in the movie. Then his Brotherhood raid the building and have all of the world's most powerful people in one room together. Hank being with Charles; Scott, Jean, Ororo, Warren, and Bobby have to stop Erik from killing off the world leaders.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

  • Scott Summers: He's the leader of the team. He's natural at it and is good at it. He has a crush on Jean Grey and has for years. He believes she feels the same way, but doesn't have the courage (for once) to make a move. His powers are controlled by his visor which Hank builds for him. He can set the visor to impact or burn. Impact is like a push, while burn is self explanatory.
  • Jean Grey: Jean is the girl you can't help but love. She's an amazing person and she's very nice, but that leads to her being very vulnerable sometimes. She's incredibly powerful and it seems like her powers enhance everyday. She has a huge crush on Scott, but feels like he needs to make the first move. Her powers would be displayed similarly to how Lucy's abilities are in the movie...Lucy starring Scarlett Johansson. Her psionic blasts would not be seen. She'd just extend her hand towards someone and they'd go flying back or fall to the ground or begin holding their had in pain.
  • Ororo Monroe: Ororo is a feisty young mutant. She stands up for what she believes in and is incredibly courageous. Her spending her childhood on her own., she's very independent and it takes her a little while to open up to knew people. Despite all of that she has a good heart. She's incredibly powerful and has a pretty good grip on her abilities, but she goes overboard sometimes out of anger.
  • Warren Worthington: Warren is the son of a rich man who disowned him when his wings came out. He hides his insecurities and baggage behind an act. He acts cocky and like he's the best. He constantly questions Scott, which all gets on the teams nerves. The only one who sees through this (almost literally) is Jean. Scott mistakes her comfort of him for a relationship which drives him to dislike Warren even more.
  • Bobby Drake: Bobby wouldn't be the stereotypical funny guy who's hiding his insecurities. He loves being a mutant. It definitely comes with many negatives, but he lvoes his powers. His main problem is that he needs to control his powers.

The Brotherhood's roster would include many mutants, but the main members (other than Magneto) are Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Toad, Mastermind, Blob, and Avalanche. I think this roster would work because it includes more of a different group of people than we've ever seen in the Brotherhood. I'd love to see new interpetations of Toad and Blob, and the first adaption of Mastermind and Avalanche.

The X-Men would wear navy blue and gold outfits, each different and catered to the specific character, but they still look uniform. Cyclops could possibly have the cowl, but none of the others.

This would be the first in a trilogy of films with the new X-Men. Wolverine would not be included in any one, but more mutants would appear each movie.

I liked XMen and x2 at the time, but feel they haven't aged well. As it stands now, I actually only like First Class of the Fox movies, but haven't tried the couple released after. I may be done with them. And I don't think they're shit or abominations or the worst blah blah...just have come to realize they just aren't my bag.

@ruadh

I totally agree. The first to seem like cheese-fest to me. I think people praise them more because they were so good at the time, but now Magneto's entire plan just seems cliched and dumb and the tone feels weird to me as well. At least in the first.

They just need to make a film that actually uses the comics their based on as inspiration. It's really no that hard to do.

Nice article by the way.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are perfect for Deadpool. Deadpool should be a film following Deadpool's crazy antics, but also be a riff on the superhero genre thusfar.
