Ryan Reynolds Says DEADPOOL Rating Is Still Being Debated
Ever since the announcement of the upcoming Deadpool movie, many fans have wondered whether the film will receive a box-office friendly PG-13 rating or whether it will receive an R-rating. In a recent interview, star Ryan Reynolds briefly touched on this topic, come check out what he had to say!
While promoting his upcoming film Woman In Gold, which also stars Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds took a few moments to discuss another one of his upcoming films, the highly anticipated Deadpool. During the interview, he was asked whether he thought the Tim Miller-directed film would receive a PG-13 rating, which is considered more lucrative at the box office, or an R rating, which many fans are clamoring for. He had a simple reply: "That debate rages on. We’ll see."
He went on to refer to the film as "a bit of wish fulfillment" and also discussed what makes The Merc With The Mouth such a compelling character. "It’s just how unusual he is. You understand why there was trepidation to make the movie early on? Because it’s a really difficult character to put up on the screen for the studio. He’s a character that’s aware he’s in a film, he’s aware that he breaks the fourth wall."
After mentioning how he believes the popularity of the character makes shooting the film that much more exciting, Reynolds then went on to discuss Wade Wilson's place in the X-Men cinematic universe, and how Deadpool compares to the other seven X-Men films: "I mean, he does certain things that are unlike anything else in the X-Men Universe yet he is a part of the X-Men Universe. So it makes it a little challenging, I think, to find a way. He’s so popular—the comic book alone [is] one of the most popular selling comic books of all time so it’s exiting to be here shooting it. We don’t have the budget that most X-Men movies do. In the super hero world, this would be considered an independent film."
