The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Tony Award-nominee Billy Magnussen has joined the cast of Guy Ritchie's live-action adaptation of the 1992 animated classic, Aladdin. Details on his character are being kept under wraps, but one thing we do know is that he'll be breathing life into a new role that was created specifically for the upcoming movie.
Magnussen joins a cast headlined by Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan), who is starring as the titular thief-turned-prince, and that also features Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) as Princess Jasmine, Will Smith (Bright) as Genie, Marwan Kenzari (The Mummy) as Jafar, Numan Acar (Prison Break) as Hakim, and Nasim Pedrad (New Girl), who is playing another original character, Mara.
Ritichie (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) is directing with a script from John August (Big Fish) while Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) is producing the picture.
Magnussen recently starred in the Aubrey Plaza/Elizabeth Olsen indie Ingrid Goes West and his other credits include Into The Woods, Bridge of Spies, The Big Short, The Meddler, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He can be seen next in the Jason Bateman/Rachel McAdams comedy thriller Game Night, which is due out March 2, 2018.
