Tickets are now officially on sale for Jon Favreau's highly-anticipated The Lion King, and to add to the hype, Walt Disney Records has shared details on the upcoming The Lion King: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which looks to dominate the airwaves through the coming weeks and months.

The digital soundtrack will be released at 11am EST (8am PST) on July 11, followed by a physical album release on July 19, day-and-date with the film's theatrical debut. Both are currently available to pre-order where albums are sold.

The soundtrack reunites Academy Award- and Grammy-winning superstar Elton John and Grammy-winning lyricist Tim Rice, and sees the duo compose an uplifting original song, "Never Too Late," performed by John and featuring an African choir.

The soundtrack also features new recordings of the original songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice as well as the score from Academy Award-winning and Grammy-winning composer Hans Zimmer. African vocal and choir arrangements were done by Grammy-winning producer/composer Lebo M while Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Pharrell Williams produced five tracks on the soundtrack.

Curiously, Track 14 is being kept under wraps as it's only listed as "TBA" for now, and while there's no confirmation just yet, it seems possible that this mystery song may be an original track from Donald Glover and/or Beyoncé.

“The Lion King” original motion picture soundtrack track list follows.
  1. “Circle of Life”/“Nants’ Ingonyama” – Performed by Lindiwe Mkhize; African vocals performed by Lebo M; written and composed by Elton John and Tim Rice; “Nants’ Ingonyama” written by Lebohang Morake and Hans Zimmer; produced by Hans Zimmer; vocals produced by Stephen Lipson

@knocturnalzen10 - The Lion King is the highest grossing to be produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. Second is Frozen. Although Frozen 2 will probably outgross both.

I just hope it's a better song for the film then Speechless was for Aladdin.

Not a bad song on it's own but FUUUCK it didn't fit the movie it was in at all. IT didn't fit with all the other songs. I'm sure Rice and John could do a much better job.

Besides...Road to El dorados soundtrack is better anyway.

Even though it wont happen, I really hope the end credits is still the original version of Can You Feel the Love Tonight by Elton. It just wouldnt feel the same without it.

@Himura - The assumption is that it's going to be the new song by Elton John and Tim Rice at the end credits, but we'll see.

Man I was sure Chance the Rapper was gonna be involved after that picture of him, Favreau, and Pharrell came out. Plus, the original is like his favorite movie. Maybe the release was too close to his album dropping.
