Deadline confirms that Rachel McAdams will reprise her Doctor Strange role as Dr. Christine Palmer in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
It was beginning to look like the actress was going to give the Marvel Studios sequel a miss. That wouldn't have been overly surprising given how limited her part in the first instalment was, as the talented actress was very much relegated to being a typical superhero movie love interest.
With Sam Raimi directing this follow-up, it appears something may have changed.
Plot details are few and far between, but McAdams now joins a cast which includes Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme, Benedict Wong as Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, and Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch. Newcomer Xochitl Gomez was also recently added to the cast, presumably as America Chavez.
Production is expected to begin in London early next year once Cumberbatch is finished shooting his role as Doctor Strange in Spider-Man 3.
If this sequel is going to delve into the Marvel Multiverse, it could be a game changer for this shared world, and is clearly tied to WandaVision in some way. The prevailing theory is that Strange will make a cameo appearance in the Disney+ series, no doubt leading to his team-up - or battle - with Wanda.
