I've been talking with friends who are also fans of Superman and how the new
film should be. But the one thing that has me so mad, was that some people want
Brandon Routh back for the reboot. The point of a reboot is to start fresh and
make a good film that fans will a love and appreciate. I like the news that
Zack Snyder will direct the reboot because his films are visually amazing and
great, so i have no worries. Chris Nolan is of course a film master. The main thing though is the main role. Who will play Clark Kent/ Superman? I for one wouldn't like Routh back because he already had his chance and ruined it. Now it's time to let somebody else to wear the tights and be the symbol of hope. That person is Tom Welling.
He has been portraying Clark Kent in Smallville for about 10 years and i say that he should get the chance to play Superman. He has worked his way up for a long time and i believe that he will be able to succeed in this role. He is an actor who actually understands the character unlike many who pretend or dont even know. Not only does he have the acting skills and knowledge of the superhero that Brandon Routh will probably never have, but he also has the looks. Since Smallville began in 2000, he has changed a lot from where he is now. I say we give Tom Welling the role he deserves. He has worked harder than anyone else and i know that even though he wasn't much of a fan of the iconic superhero in the beginning, his view on him has also changed and now sees him from the eyes of a fan. He knows what the fans want and I am sure that he will succeed in it. Not only do I want Tom Welling to be Clark Kent/Superman in the reboot, but also famous artist Alex Ross.
He has drawn portraits of Tom Welling as the iconic Superhero and he looks the part. Also many fans may have changed their decision of the actor who should play Cark Kent/Superman because of the latest episode of Smallville which premiered yesterday. Fans got to see the real Clark Kent and a future that may be possible for the actor if we spread the word around that Tom Welling is the actor of choice from us the fans and people. This film could be the epic Superman film that fans have been wanting and waiting for.
I want to let WB and Zack Snyder that Tom Welling is the perfect choice so i want help on making this VIRAL and HUGE.

What you want is a Smallville movie which considering the show has been on the air for 10 years would normally not be impossible. However in this case it is just not going to happen.

Smallville has to end when he becomes Superman because that is the deal. Nobody wants to make a Superman movie with all that Smallville baggage. I know this is a bit unfair. If it were not for he problem with the Rights the possibility of a follow-up Smallville movie would be fairly high. X-Files has spawned 2 of them after all. In this case though it is very, very unlikely.

I am sorry that Smallville is ending. For Fans that is always a difficult thing to accept. But all you can do is move on, buy the series on DVD, and be happy you got 10 good years of a show you loved.

Personally, I think it's very likely Tom Welling will be cast as Superman in MOS. I've said as much countless times and for various reason, but only time will tell.

I cringe at WELLINGTONBOOT ever getting near a proper SUPERMAN role for the big screen!

The guys cardboard, it'll end up being worst than FIST A$$ lol!

2)have u seen him in smallville lately. hes been acting really good as the main role. I dont know how u can say that hes cardboard. Superman returns was a piece of shit. Rouths acting was plain and had no emotion.All he did was say his lines like a freakin monotone retard. U are seriouly saying that 10 years of acting as clark hasnt made him the right choice!

Anything is possible but some things are just more likely than others correct?

You can say... The Sun might rise tomorrow and be bright Pink. It could happen but we both know it will not.

Tom Welling has spent 10 years establishing himself as Clark Kent. In the eyes of the world he is that Character. When you go to make a multi-million dollar movie you avoid the risks that you can. To the average person putting Welling in the role means you are making a Smallville movie.

The reason that you and others cannot see this is because you have no objectivity. You are Fans and you love the guy. But to anyone on the outside the idea that Welling, or Routh, would get the role is just insane.

I'm not a hater I watch SMALLVILLE and I'm a big SUPERMAN fan!

And watched Smallville from day one episode one!

Welling's the weakest thing in that show and he cannot play SUPERMAN on the big screen!

DGTZ @ Its a good article dude, I'm not mocking it, its just like others see it too, Welling hasn't got the chops for the big screen plus we have all the SMALLVILLE baggage too!

SMALLVILLE used to be gold, all that magic went when he went to Metropolis and played superhero.

He can play Clark Kent farm boy though good!

I'm sorry to drag this over here..but maybe you should read this ( it's an article that came out in the British Press today (17/10 Snyder was in the UK promoting his latest movie Legend Of The Guardian. Now before you all start screaming it's not real..or it's a crap british newspaper...it's just a transcript from a video. In my most humble opinion. They should test both Routh AND Welling..as well as all the others they wish to see. Then just pick whom they think will best fit the role..for the story, they have in mind. A newbie would be great. Superman on the big screen is what we all want..even if we set ourselfs to nit-pick ( and no matter who plays him..he's gonna get some kinda schtick for it)

I loved most of SR (except Lois) I enjoyed the nod to Chris Reeves. yeah the plot stunk but I was just happy to see my Hero up there doing what he does best. Save lives, love Lois from afar and catch falling planes from the sky!
I've loved (mostly) all of Smallville. I have loved how Tom has grown both as a person and a character over the years. he is the younger generation Superman.

I even liked Dean Cain ( because that WAS the 80's and relevant to it's time)

But what Tom and Brandon do SO beautifully is play Clark to a tee. We have to remember that Clark IS and internal person. He's holding onto one of THE most amazing secrets ever put on paper. So playing his emotions understated is true for the character. He IS meek and mild. He ISN'T a bullish, angry MAN (like some of the other Hero's out there) he doesn't bare a grudge (unlike some of the fans on this site! ;D ) He is NOT of this world. So we have to 'see' into this Aliens heart and read all what is going on through his subtle actions and even more so, through those piercing blue eyes. In that, Both Welling AND Routh do it exceptionally well.
btw, most women 'get' both Welling and Routh because we are very attuned to reading emotion.

Now remember, this is just my humble opinion and Iam in no way trying to set myself up to beaten to death.

@Oceandeep Yeah i get what u mean. i just feel like Tom should get the role. I think that he will too because its a coincidence that the season is gonna end this year and the superman movie will be on the go. So by then they can have Welling. Also i can see Smallville redeem themselves by using characters they didnt get to use that well because of the budget they had. Like for example they can place bizarro in the movie since he was thrown and got caught by a someone else not knowing what happened to him. Not so sure about Routh though because like a friend of mine said, he has been in movies and only gets few lines and still that he cant do well. Which is why they ONLY give him 2 lines cuz they know he is a bad actor. Zach and miri and scott pilgrim he both was in them and didnt do so well. Im just saying Routh had his, why not let someone else do it.

Welling isnt going to ever be big
screen SUPERMAN he's been on a sitcom
\soap opera for 10yrs...never gonna happen.

I'd like to see WELLING as SUPERMAN as well
only on WATERVILLE or a spin-off and yea I
know that's not going to happen either.

I know a few people hate ROUTH on here ,but
the truth is he has a better chance at playing
SUPES than Welling will ever have...regardless
of what you Welling lovers want.

Homecoming was good it's the best Waterville has
been since LEX left. Up until Homecoming.. Oliver,
Lois,Chloe,and the special guest stars have been
carrying Waterville...now that's just my humble
opinion.

@DGTZ I hear ya. as much asIi love Smallville, I don;t want a big screen movie. I would die to see Tom in the role as Supes but not as the Clark from SV. The only way that he could continue his character of Clark from Sv would be to have the entire cast from that show...and that ain't gonna happen. But to have Clark play SuperMAN in his own role...that I'd pay to see. He would be written and directed differently from SV and it'd be great to see how he handles it.

Well the good thing is that it won't be long now. They will pick someone and this will be over.

I really wish I could give you guys some hope for what you want. If Smallville was a different show then you could reasonably expect to see a full movie. X-Files did it twice. Granted Smallville is not quite that popular but 10 years is a good long run.

But sadly the conditions under which Smallville was created are going to prevent any follow-up movies. More than any other SuperHero I am afraid that Superman has been almost defeated by the most vile enemy of all: Legal Red Tape.

Smallville was made possible by a compromise which was that they would not do a Superman show. It is bizarre even for Hollywierd and I know it makes the Fans nuts. But those are the facts and they are not going to change.

The only possiblity I see is if the new Superman bombs and they give up on trying again for a while. In that case a Smallville movie might have some sort of chance.
