There is no denying that this year's movie choices are extremely better than that of summer '10. Last year only gave us Inception, Toy Story 3 and Iron Man 2. That was it as far as enjoyment goes. The rest was either lackluster trash or forgettable messes. This year was an improvement. So below are my top 10 Movies of the summer.
10. Crazy Stupid Love
The first previews played this movie out to be a flop. But once again, like X-men First Class, I was surprised. This is a hilarious comedy. Non stop laughs and with another great performance from Steve Carell, Crazy Stupid Love boosts its way to this top 10 list. I was thankful that I got to see such a wondrous comedy. This I have to buy when it comes out on DVD.

9. Pirates of the Carabean: On Stranger Tides
This received a lot of heat from both sides. But I found it very enjoyable. The 4th installment of the Disney amusement park ride adaptation is more than a step above its predecessor-its an improvement. At World's End was a solid adventure, but in no way is it as good as the first two. On Stranger Tides brings us a great performance from Johnny and even though it does not have Orlando or Knightly, On Stranger Tides finds a way to get the job done.

8. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Very good movie. I did not expect it to be really anything it turned out to be from the previews. With a strong performance from the legend Andy Serkis, Ries of the Apes is a refreshing addition to a long running franchise. The Tim Burton film got bashed on greatly, but I still found it to be a pretty good movie. However, Rise of the Apes is much better than Burton's take. The special effects are outstanding; 20th Century Fox is the best at CGI these days. Its Amazing they were able to so much with a budget of 93 million. Good work from all of the filmmakers.

7. Kung Fu Panda 2
Two sequels opened up on Memorial weekend. One does the the wrong way *cough* Hangover *cough*, and the other gets it right. In Some ways, Kung Fu 2 is better than its predessor. In most, its on par. There is a lot to enjoy here with this animated flick. And with a great job boasted from its talented voice cast, Kung Fu Panda 2 deserves all the credit it got at the BO and from people the world over. Much better than the trash Hangover Part 2 that opened up on the same weekend.

6. Captain America
My first thoughts about this movie were that it would be trash. But Captain America delivers an epic finish to the origins of the Avengers. There is a lot of great humor in this flick, and let us not forget the epic battle sequences. Especially when he jail breaks Bucky and the hundreds other soldiers from the factory. The cinematography is fantasic in this movie; arguably the best since Donner's Superman. Joe Johnston does wonders with movies that seem to deal with the forties. The score is fantastic. But my only complaint is that there wasn't enough character development for some and that tehre were several places that CGI wasn't needed and it looked pretty bad. But those were minor flaws. Overall, Cap's patriotic spirit lands him at # 6.

5. Fast Five
Good acting, a decent plot, likeable characters and a good script in a Fast and Furious movie?!?!??! Say it aint so! After three failures in this franchise, Fast Five is another refreshing summer pop corn flick. Yeah its over the top, but thsi movie uses its action well, and the special effects SERVE the story this time! OMFG. Its no doubt that Filmmakers brought out the big guns with the fifth installment, and with a huge twist after the credits, Fast 6 is on the way...

A
4. Green Lantern
I waited years for this movie to pop up on the big screen and when it came this soon, I jizzed. Green Lantern is unfairly bashed. Critics kept comparing it to X-men and Thor, which was not fair to be honest. It should be in the 60 %'s for Rotten Tomatoes. But oh well I guess. Having said that, Ryan Reynolds was an excellent Hal Jordan, Peter Sarsgaard came off as a creepy ass Hector Hammond but Mark Strong stole the show for Sinestro. It could have been little longer yes, and I was a bit disappointed in it. Just a little bit though. I was expecting this to be at the number one spot. But well, can't win 'em all. Can't wait for the directors cut and the sequel! ;)
MY GRADE: A
3. Thor
After giving it some thought, Thor is my favorite CBM of the summer. The God of EThunder's big screen appearance is delivered well although at times it does feel a bit rushed. The scene with the destroyer could have been longer, but the Loki-Thor smack down made up for its flaws. Filled with a lot of dry humor and arguably the best Stan Lee cameo in a Marvel movie, Thor comes in third for this summer. All I have to say is...'this movie, I like it. ANOTHER!'
MY GRADE:
A
2. Super 8
If J.J. Abrams Keeps this up, he will be the next Spielberg. This is the best Alien encounter movie since E.T. Its so emotionally in depth and the suspense is spine-tinglingly awesome. It feels like a Spielberg movie and looks like a Spielberg movie. The closing minutes stick to you unlike most movies that have come out this year. I loved Super 8. The score of this move captures the emotion and its sounds very close to John Williams. It makes you care.

and the winner is....
1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
In the future, It would be hard to top such an epic finale to a franchise as the final Harry Potter. DHP2 is paced very well, the visuals are stunning and appealing, the acting is powerful and the feeling brings back old movie magic. The epic showdown where Hogwarts is nearly destroyed is the most thrilling battle sequence since Helms Deep in Two Towers. Even though David Yates (who has taken care of the final four Potter movies) really doesnn't stay too faithful to the books like his preceding directors did, he gives the best ending to a franchise since Return of the Jedi. This is the grittiest, darkest, and most brutal movie to come out this summer. I was told on an article over a month ago that all three Marvel movies combined would out gross the final installment to the long running Harry Potter franchise. Hmmmm....
Captain America: 286,256,280
Thor: 448,127,309
X-men: 350,159,677
=1,084,543,266
Harry Potter Death Hallows Part 2: 1,216,295,410...and counting...

Haha. Sorry. Had to do it :P
ANWAYS...Thank you and goodbye, Mr Potter. Its been a fantastic 10 years.
