What About Astro City?

Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross created a whole new universe of rich characters, history and mythology seldom seen since the Golden Age of comics. When and How should it be brought to life?

The magical and awe inspiring world crafted by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross is like going back in time for many of us. These men crafted a world where there has yet to be twisted continuity, an infinite number of alternate dimensions and possible bleak futures, or so many pointless deaths and resurrections that it borders on the absurd.

What this world does contain is lush city scapes and bright open skies filled with superhero fantasy and adventure that beckons to the Golden Age of DCs Metropolis. It is also filled with a deep and rich cast of characters to rival a Silver Age New York of Marvel fare. Characters such as Samaritan, Jack-In-The-Box, Winged Victory, The Furst Family, CrackerJack, Quarrel, Star Woman, The Old Soldier, Siver Agent, M.P.H., the N-Forcer and many, many more.

So the questions I pose here are....

"When are they gonna get their X*$@?+!#@-ing movie check!?!".....

"What Producer/Director do you think has the vision to bring this to the Big Screen and do it justice?".....

and lastly "Who are the actors and actress' best suited to bring these wonderful characters to life?"

I flipped through a few issues of this. With more time and more money on my hands I would buy it, it looked great!

A movie based off of Astro City would be AWESOME!
I was going to do a cast of it pretty soon anyway!

Astro City is one of those lost gems. It was pretty big when I was a teenager. It was a breath of fresh air from the "grim 'n gritty" comics of the 90's. I suggest people check it out!

Astro City is definitely worth checking out. It is a very good escape from the mainstream comics. I too like the dark, grim and gritty side of comics but after Civil War, Planet Hulk, World War Hulk, Secret Invasion and Dark Reign I just wanted to get away from mainstream stuff. So...I went back to Astro City, Y: The Last Man, Elektra: Assassin and it made me think why have these movies not been made? If you have never read Astro City pick up the TPB. If you've never read Elektra: Assassin or Y:The Last Man then... what's wrong with you??? =P

@Romack: In answer to your questions -

1. Soon. :)

2. I think Bevan and Fellner will produce with Busiek, Johnathan Alpers and Ben Barenholtz executive producing. ;)

3. Not a [frick]ing clue. :D

Sorry I didn't catch this at the time - I would have commented, because I thought this series was excellent.

Just the first issue with Samaritan shows a degree of insight into the Superman archetype rarely seen elsewhere, especially at the time, and that's something that crops up throughout the series - a unique perspective on very familiar concepts. Brilliant stuff.

With Busiek scripting it too, there's grounds for a fair degree of optimism too.

On the subject of Busiek, I think a Marvels style TV series would be a great idea (street level take on living in a world with Superheroes in it, but not from the POV of the heroes themselves...)

Keith@ lol. Thanks man. I've been waitin' on some news. I like the idea of a Marvels Styled TV show. They could end each episode like the cliffhanger ending from old serials.
