Darwins death was an unjustified one. No one really understands why this is wrong because Darwin is not a well known character. Darwin is a great character who cannot die, he was literally ressurected in Deadly Genesis.

if he cant die, how did he need ressurecting? :)

I just found it odd that this character who is meant to evolve to prevent hazards to his body was black during the 60's, which wasn't a partially safe time in history to be a member of the black community.

I think they're doing with Havok the same thing they did with the third Summers brother. Before Darwin "dies," he looks at Alex before he flashes into bright white light. Not a true death per se in my book, especially considering Darwin's abilities.

Okay, so Darwin's power is to adapt to survive. The whole point of the scene is that Havoc attacks Shaw and Darwin protects Angel. When the energy discs (or whatever they are) are released, Darwin is prepared to take the impact of the same amount of energy that Shaw kills him with. Unless Darwin made a mistake of incredible proportions, he should have been able to survive Shaw's energy ball if he could have survived Havoc's attack...

Consider that some people believe that the ultimate conclusion to the evolutionary process is to become pure energy. If you follow this train of thought, then Darwin didn't die, he just evolved and became pure energy, perhaps like Dr. Manhattan in The Watchmen. Anything else is anyone's guess and it's silly to speculate since if you're successful the only conclusion is he's dead and didn't have the juice to evolve, and if that is true then he won't be seen again in the X-Men universe and thus is removed from the story timeline, barring some extreme plot twist like time travel or other crap.

I think the idea of becoming pure energy is somewhat stunted, because is invalidates the purpose of having corporeal form, reducing it to a mere stepping stone. We gained intelligence, and we gained physical bodies, you don't just throw that away. I think our understanding of energy is flawed, and I'm interested to read the story that explores this idea.
