As Marvel Studios sets about assembling its principal cast for the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, rumors continue to swirl about which actors will ultimately suit-up as Marvel's First Family - and this latest one is sure to inspire a lot of debate!
Industry insider Jeff Sneider - who reported on Harrison Ford's Thunderbolts involvement before the trades confirmed his casting - has heard that Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, House of Gucci) might be in the mix to play Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in the movie.
Here's the thing, though: Driver's name has also been mentioned in connection with Doctor Doom.
Sneider seems to feel that Richards is more likely, though it's worth noting that he doesn't sound 100% confident in his source. Still, he doesn't usually drop these type of scoops/rumors if he doesn't believe there's at least a possibility of them panning out, so this is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
If this report is accurate and Driver is in talks to join the production, would you rather see him as Mr. Fantastic or the villainous Doom?
Matt Shakman recently boarded the project as director, with Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer currently working on the script. Plot details are still a mystery, but Kevin Feige has confirmed that this will not be another origin story for the super-team.
“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” he said in a recent interview, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”
Fantastic Four is currently set to hit theaters in 2024.
